How many gameplay mods out there have a feature that lets you push back monsters?

I'm designing a map at the moment and I'm thinking of having a death pit in it, which can be utilized by players to push some enemies into, rather than just a hazard for the player to avoid.

I'm a fan of the console Doom ports, specifically the Sony PlayStation port. I don't know if many people are but I do have a question pertaining to them:

Is there a mod that has the "simplified" versions of the console Doom maps, stemming back from the Atari Jaguar version, as well as the console exclusive maps? Is there also a mod that contains the sound effects from the Saturn/PlayStation versions? The only mod that I know of is CONSOLEDOOM.WAD, but this incorporates some levels from Doom 64 into the mix, which is, while still cool, something that I don't prefer. The PSX Doom Total Conversion is impressive, but is a hassle to setup, and all I'm really wanting are the simplified levels and sound effects, something that can be easily done with a WAD or two.

ultimately it really doesn't matter, the priority is what fits the most with a mapset and the aesthetic it's trying to go for. you don't want pop music on a moody and grim mapset, for example.

I've found that to make dynamic spotlights look good, you need to place them in a dummy sector behind where you want them to actually be. Also helps to give the light texture a higher brightness than the surrounding textures, since the spotlight behind it won't light it up.

It's a tie between Parias and Duke, Parias is great because having the Sapphire wand along with the serpent staff, hammer of retribution and the fucking wraithverge, the guy has a lot of options for destroying shit.

Champions mixes nicely with mods like GMOTA too. But avoid mixing it with mods that have real complicated enemy switch-ups, like Quake-Style Unbound, and really badly coded garbage like Brutal Doom. BD apparently gives the player monster tags, and your variant keeps shifting, so you'll randomly be teleporting or shooting fireballs out of your ass, or phasing through attacks - and enemies do the same since they keep changing their variant too.

They're too different, it could be feasible with a massive amount of work but it's nowhere near as simple as adding Heretic/Hexen support to Doom. Both SW and Blood use completely different internal mechanics to Duke when it comes to level design and monster AI.

Redneck Rampage is actually a lot more feasible in that regard since it's based on top of Duke3D rather than the base build engine - even the palette is the same.

I died a second after taking this pic. Legendary Pinkie with the white champion effect that makes him phase in and out and thus be able to avoid attacks while phased out, when the opponent is already only damageable when its randomly electrified or attacking. If monsters aren't alert, and they all just stand there, the monsters that stand in place will get telefragged and replaced with the new ones, but as soon as they all wake up and start moving, you're more or less looking at an endless supply of monsters until you end the level.
GZDoom has an option you can toggle that makes the Icon Of Sin kill all of his spawns when he dies, if you think that would be a cool feature.

Just finished it, UV max all levels.

Despite all I'm about to say, I enjoyed the romp and would encourage others here to play and share their thoughts.
For reference, I played this with High Noon Drifter, listening to megaman music not vanilla music which when you make future levels, D_Runnin is never well received.

The good:

>See that you tried to mix up things with height variations now and then
>Good pacing of ammo and pickups, but could have used RL slightly earlier and with a bit more ammo, maybe just 10 more

Lots of imps/chaingunners in moster closets are not a great threat when there is only one closet and I can face them down with an SSG as two blasts clears out the whole herd. There also wasn't a whole lot of "interconnectivity", like you never saw an upcoming area, or another area from a different angle until you were right in it. Areas wouldn't change much while in them and things were very much on a rail. It seemed very 90's.

All that said though I really didn't mind it as I don't think that's' what you were really gunning for anyway.

/doom/, do you have any recommendations for blood and gore mods? Not to sound like an edgelord, but I like a bit of visceral fun, especially when using weapon mods. I've been using Beautiful Doom for quite a long time, and it still looks good to me, but I've now noticed that all dismemberment is limb removal (think fallout) without any limb explosion (think head-popping). I don't necessarily need a gore mod with the same detail as Beautiful Doom, hell, I'll just settle for a blood mod, Universal Gibs is great for gibbing. Also please don't recommend Brutal Doom. I'm begging you.

There's a bug where it checks for the amount of chaos serpents every few tics and then lowers some walls, but due to the logic it's possible for it to fuck up and never lower the walls. So yes, you do need to either reload an earlier save or noclip to fight the wizards and Korax.

Yeah but its just the map, I was illustrating the idea of using additive blending only to make good energy weapon effects (while alpha is set to 1.0).

Because if you make the darker colors darker they will not add much to the background, while the brighter colors become white or brighter than usual instead of becoming washed out.

Beautiful Doom lets you comment out different modules in the decorate.txt, unfortunately it takes a bit of tinkering to get it to be a bit more universal, had to delete any stuff relating to decorations, powerups, and ammo since commenting them out didn't seem to work. The weapon mod is Abort_M 2 by Marisa.

map01: pretty low-key and inoffensive. i like the light sectors pointing you where to go with symbols, it's a cute touch. i liked steeling past the hell knight to grab the super shotgun at the beginning. the layout was very linear, not that that is a bad thing. I noticed linear layouts permeate most of this mapset, ill go more into detail on this later. my favorite part is the ending area because of its height variation and the platforming. i also appreciate the change of texture in this part as it helps the area seem different.

map02: i like the experimentation with height variation here in the outdoor canyon areas. unfortunately, the rest of the level is boring. i find lots of these flat, dark mazes to be very monotonous. turning a corner and blasting the same demons in the face then going back into cover really gets boring and makes it turn into a slog. it doesn't help that this levels is the worst in terms of weapon usage. i understand i didn't get many secrets here, but the gameplay seems to be based on using a supershotgun to blast near foes rather than selectively using the chaingun and others for crowd-control/larger foes. idk. could use work, but i see merits in this one.

map03: i do not like this map. just like i said before, the flat designs of this map and the predictable nature of its encounters really made me feel drowsy while playing it. NOT TO MENTION - the insanely brown color-palette. this palette could definitely work but there were rarely any contrasting colors at all. i mean - quake was never THIS brown with its texture usage. there are parts where the colors are pleasing when used in conjunction with blue or green slime and some nice lighting variation. look at crumpets.wad, that wad uses brown in a very beautiful way. maybe it would be good if there were more details in the environment.

map04: definitely an improvement. this feels like an evolution of the earlier maps, featuring some nice diversity in environments and more height variation. i liked the obelisk in the canyon for its contrasting and pleasing texture and how it subtly provides cover from the hitscanners. not bad.

overall: the textures used in this map seem like a mask for its uninteresting and bland color scheme. this can be done very well though, look at back to saturn x episode 2 for example. the maps in that set are also quite brown , however they at least do basic color contrast with greys along with interesting and somewhat believable environments. this mapset would honestly maybe feel better with vanilla textures. at least then it would feel like it was a strange but cool 90's wad instead of a somewhat-mediocre wad from the current year. i think it would also help to try making maps that do not rely on three main areas with keys. i think it would be cool to try and design a map where the progression is more free-flowing, like a sandbox. the enemy placement was ok. i noticed a lot of revenants in this wad, and i do think they are interesting enemies, but i feel they were used to artificially make the combat more dynamic. most of the rev encounters take place in a hallway. there was also one instance where there were two hellknights on the top of a lift, blocking access until they were dead and i only had a shotgun and i hated that - but im sure its because there was little testing on UV. I'll let it slide (but please change before you upload!).

It was featured in the general thread for a few days. Im not going to pull up the mega link right now though. It had these effects.

There are a few gameplay changes I want to make which are going to require probably modifying all the monsters (since zdoom doesnt allow modifying objects directly, you have to replace, pure stupidity there).

Plasma Rifle will also consume 2x ammo, shoot half as fast, and cause double damage. A portion of which would be splash damage over a slight radius (no self damage) to harass imps and zombies with. So instead of a high damage assault rifle it becomes an even higher damage battle rifle. Since the splash is a second source of damage it still has the same stun chance.

Noble Fireballs would also have slight guidance capabilities. As its being thrown it would track the target for the first few tics to enhance accuracy. And might get a token so that during its flight somewhere at random its trajectory would adjust to improve accuracy (one time though, not continuous like the revenant). I interpret the baron fireball to be much like a magic spell which means it should have a knack for hitting the target.

Another thing I want to do is nerf the BFG while making a direct hit more dangerous.

Pretty much any monster hit with the spray takes about 200-250 damage, enough to wipe everything lower than a Caco. But only that much, no matter how close they are to the shooter.
And actually I think id rather nerf it altogether by making a direct hit up close deliver about 1500 points (take 1300 from the main projectile). Damage economy on the plasma rifle is about 1000 for the same amount of cells so its still an advantage.

Just got Doom 1, 2, Final Doom, Master Levels from Steam and now I'm playing Doom for the first time. I downloaded Doom Redux Pack 2018 addon (it is based on GZDoom) to make it look ok. Previously I tried to play original Doom (with ZDoom), but it looked like crap, I can't stand these retarted pixels. Now it looks like nice 2000-2003 game. This addon is like Brutal Doom in terms of violence, but much closer to original in terms of gameplay and everything is in hi-res with 3D models (even gibs and guts are in 3D). Kamen Rider Doom would be fucking cool. I've thought about a couple ways to do it, but the big question would be, well, actually doing it.
So you start off in civilian form, fight off monsters with melee attacks and a couple gadgets for long-range stuff. As you beat off monsters, you gain "Momentum" or "Hype" or something, which fills up to full. Once your meter is full, you can hit a button at any time to transform.
Transforming drains your Momentum but enhances all of your base stats (movement, jumping, damage, defense) and fills your health back to full, giving you a dramatic second wind to fight monsters off with. It also gives you a couple extra weapons to swap between that you can't use in civilian mode.
It'd even be easy to do the stereotypical "stun enemy and hit button to finish them off" gameplay system for +BOSS-class enemies.

Big question would be what to do with the mandatory mid-season upgrade. I guess that'd be BFG?

Always felt the plasma rifle and bfg should have been a flamethrower with limited range in the original.

Deployable double damage powerup, or very limited quad damage (like 10 seconds) would have been a good stand in for the bfg. Could have ripped that idea off of super mario world because it had powerups you could use during a map as needed.

Dude build opened so strong and it's still good as of like 3 weeks ago when I had a chance to sit down and catch up. It's very close to mid-late Drive/Gaim quality in my opinion.
Maybe for a KRDoom mod we'd have to make our own custom rider? That might also work a bit better than cloning existing ones, at least for a start.

Yeah, making an original Rider would mean we'd have more to work with and have to adhere less to a preexisting equipment/moveset. It'd also be easy to FPS it up and make a more gun-focused Rider for additional weapon pickups so that combat isn't all melee.

okay, I'm home and I've watched the demo, I'm glad you typed all of that
not likely to do anything too major, but I'm gonna at least tweak a few things
a couple of the encounters got handled way easier than I'd expected, so I can see I need to change a bit
and I'm now kinda adverse to adding the SSG to maps, it seems to really trivialize a lot of crowds
definitely going to at least vary a few of 03's textures, I kinda get what you mean with how brown it is, didn't really notice
04 was unfinished for years until yesterday, I literally just added an exit door, the red key area was supposed to be the final stretch and not just the end, not surprised that the the textures seemed really bland there
IIRC, Doom 4 footage had come out around when I started this, so I felt like adding revenants to a stage.

kinda gotta remember to open up closets across the stage to keep things interesting instead of just nearby
also, I noticed that you paused nearly every time revenants appeared

MAP01 has heaps of medikits, two in the exit room even. You likely ignored the imp platform near the start covered in Clip boxes. Also the map hands you the ability to make everything infight with its circular arena and you criticise it for it?
MAP02 does not require infighting and gives plenty of ammo. Just spam rockets at the teleport-in spot after picking up the red key. You get a megaarmor/megasphere for MAP03.
