I liked it.

It's not a bad dungeon, it's just easy to miss a key and not know exactly which branch and water level you didn't check, and needing to start over with the water level for one key can really throw off your rhythm.

I never miss that one, it's always some other key that I manage to miss. The one in the same room where you meet up with Ruto, but it's behind a bomb-able wall that you need the water level to be half-way for.

The boss key skip in master quest is so easy to do that this dungeon takes about 5 minutes in mq. I haven't played the non mq version in years though, so I can't remember how long it is.

I don't know, he's easy at first and then he starts to mirror you perfectly and occasionally get in some hits. As long as you're using the master sword it seems impossible to hit him. I usually use the hammer, or if I have it, the biggoron sword.

Don't collect any hearts and you'll beat him in just a few seconds, because his health mirrors your own.

Last time I played OoT, I just circled around Dark Link, held left on the stick, and wailed on him with the sword. Didn't take a lot of damage, either.

I always thought this is the actual trick you're "supposed" to use. Not sure if that's how I did it the very first time, but at some point I noticed that you can get hits in that way.

I'm currently at it on my re-playthrough and don't remember anything about it. It's a bit tedious and annoying, but I also like the more slow and methodical approach it takes in comparison to the other dungeons.

Somebody already mentioned the health thing, and you can get your shield eaten before entering the boss room. If you don't have a shield, he won't have a shield.

Now that I didn't know. Do you have to not have a shield in your inventory, or can you get your shield eaten, and then wait until you get into the fight and equip it then?

The water temple isn't even hard, it's just boring. How much time do you spend in menus, or sinking/floating?

Me too. I guess I was lucky enough to notice the part people don't notice and gets them stuck.

Probably not that much really, but it's the repetition of it that gives the impression of it being tedious, especially to impatient people.

>> No.4753006

I'm playing it on the wii u virtual machine and I get so frustrated with the controls. I don't know if they were better on the original N64. It's difficult to aim, to steer in a direct line, to have the camera turn where you want it to.
I'm at the boss of the shadow temple now and I got so frustrated I had to turn the game off.

>> No.4753210

>>4752758

Naw, even though the dungeon is fine you cannot deny the fact that you DO spend a lot of time in the menus, there are several situations where you open the menu, switch to the item screen and uequip them to rise, then walk for like three seconds and then opening the menu again to equip the damn things again. You WILL hear the menu sounds in your sleep after playing this dungeon. It makes it very teeeedious in the big main hall, luckily there are all those side paths where you don't have to use them much but some good old puzzling and platforming, and those compared with the really great design of the dungeon are the reason why it still is enjoyable despite the boots.

I just don't feel like Zelda fans value fun sometimes. They only want muh immersion and things that remind them of Ocarina of Time.
