Nethack, Angband, Crawl, ToME. IVAN if you're going by the hardware rule.

For console games, Mystery Dungeon 2 isn't bad. Kinda limited, but still fun.

Elemental Gimmick Gear has some rogueishness to it as well and is decent .

Aside from that mistake, as the boss is actually unkillable and you'll win in a scripted event after he beats you , loved Azure Dreams.

I've heard Brandish on the SNES is suppose to be pretty good, but I've never played it.

Cocobo Dungeons. And that one where you're a merchant.

Demise The Revelation is sort of a rougelike...it's real time but everything seems to move in steps, including combat...but then it's probably like that for online play, which can have up to 16 people per dungeon...to me it sorta feels like a MP version of Eye of the Beholder, but with stats more like Souls where you have to have points at certain levels for things and you really want all your stats to be sorta good for any character.

I like Brandish 3 on PC-98 a lot...it's a pain to get working with all the disks, but it's pretty fun, though you'll need to google translate the one web guide that exists to help you progress.

How is Duraga? Is it a real roguelike, or does it have a bunch of progression stuff like most of the MD games?

>Demise the Revelation
This is the first time in twenty years I've seen Demise/Ascension/Mordor mentioned outside of official forums. My respect for /vr/ has skyrocketed

I mention it from time to time when it's relevant, I've only known about it for about a year since I discovered it when looking for old ass games my PC can run when I need new games to play...one of the few super obscure games I found that's actually good.

i found taloon's great adventure surprisingly addictive.

(and, wonder of wonders, it's a jrpg in which the battles are actually fun.)

It's a shame that Decklin still demands payment for Mordor, when it isn't even compatible with modern Windows without a VM. He should at least put that shit on GOG

okay. sorry. it's a roguelike with dragon quest characters and monsters. yes. i do tend to find battles in jrpgs boring. and yet in this game i found the battling enormously fun. i should try other roguelikes. sorry again. best regards.

>> No.4745976

>>4744441
That's one of the many wonderful things about roguelikes. Battles are similar to many rpgs, but they're actually interesting because there's almost always risk and you need to think about what you're doing and each attack you make.
