If you're going by the actual definition of shark jumping - a desperate stunt to try and bring in viewers.... never. Closest that would qualify would be those crossover videos where he "battled" the Nostalgia Critic.

I think his videos are still interesting when he focuses on the game and doesn't get so caught up in the dumb gimmicky shit. Like just keep it to a semi-legitimate commentary/review even if his reactions are obviously exaggerated and played up some. Those ones were always the most fun to watch. When you waste half the episode on fighting with a guy in a bugs bunny suit or some stupid beranstain bears conspiracy theory or something it just gets cringy.

Once artists are popular for about ten years, give or take, the fan base becomes bitchy and often impossible to please. Sometimes the artist really does start to suck but more often people are just pissed they aren't getting what *they* want, everyone else's taste be damned.

I've laughed just as much at the new episodes as the old ones. Maybe you're outgrowing him OP. If that's the case it's time to find a new channel or create your own. Good luck.

I agree, they're barely interesting to tolerate on the first playthrough but are episodes that I'd never rewatch because who wants to see some half-baked trash from a failed film director? But he's obviously bored with the shtick, and has been for at least since the "game trailers" era... he just uses the nerd as a springboard to try to do what he actually loves which is directing and producing movies. He just sucks at it. Nobody fucking cares about his "movies", just the reviews.

Also he needs to review more slightly new stuff, there's a ton of trash on the PSX he hasn't even touched.

I actually owned the activator as a kid. My dad went out and got it for us since obviously as a kid it seemed awesome from the commercials, and in my 8-year-old or so imagination I assumed that the character would do EXACTLY as you do inside the little circle so you could pull off crazy moves impossible with the normal control scheme.

It was a different age when the nerd started, what he (and Charlie the Unicorn) did was raise the bar for original content on YouTube and in those early days people started making some interesting content that tried to rival TV. The issue is that youtube changed what was to be monetized and prioritized long videos released frequently.

That's when letsplays, shitlists and long unedited shit became popular. Even Jontron, arguably the most popular AVGN clone, had to stop making his edited reviews since they just were no longer profitable.

Season 4 was the last truly good one.

I think it's less he JUMPED the shark and more it became increasingly obvious he doesn't know what he's talking about. So many episodes just run into the same boring complaints and there was an increase of idiotic shit coming out of his mouth. Things like "Nobody reads the manual" or him freaking out because jump and shoot where mapped to different buttons than Mega man.

The first bad episode he did was the Barbie one, where he went through his whole video-making process. While I actually found that interesting, I think there was a whiff of bitterness because he was kind of burned out and didn't think the fans appreciated how much work went into each episode, even if it was only like 5 minutes long. Which if he did think that, he was probably right. They don't. But that's neither here nor there.

Most of the episodes he did while working on the movie weren't very good, with the exception of the Dark Castle one. It wasn't that he didn't put enough effort into them, it was more like he wasn't looking hard enough for games that had AVGN "potential." Understandable. The guy is only human, he put an obscene amount of work into the movie, can't expect him to be 100% on five different things at once, including raising small children.

He didn't get his mojo back until Big Rigs, which was probably a Top 3 all-time episode, and he's been mostly good ever since. I'm glad he had the opportunity to make the movie, but on a personal level I just didn't care. AVGN had potential to be like Wayne's World or Beavis & Butt-Head where it could translate to the big screen with an innovative enough script, but I didn't like the AVGN Movie's premise.

Plus, the increased exposure has led to some kind of shitty guest episodes, like Toxic Crusaders and especially the Keith Apicary one.

How does it feel to know that the only reason this thread is permitted right now after all other eceleb threads have been deleted is because AVGN cut a check to gook moot and the faggot jannys have to comply? Reminder to sage all cancer eceleb threads!

I wouldn't say it's Keith I had the problem with. My opinion on him is basically neutral because I hadn't heard of him before the episode. It's really more a principal dislike of crossovers/guest stars. They always seem to detract from the overall unique charm of whatever show it is.
