Anyone else start to collect these after getting pretty far into your SNES collection?

Yeah you need to know Jap to play a lot, but some of the key titles are so cool it's hard to pass up for the price.

It wouldn't be difficult to play an RPG if you took a couple of days to learn kana. Then you could read menu terms and play through the game minus understanding any of the story dialogs. Of course, you could just read a synopsis of the plot somewhere else.

No. I started with them because many games were released in Japan long before anywhere else. I picked up a shitload more back when you could buy a bucket of loose carts in a Japanese flea market for ¥1,000.

Granted that if you can't learn enough moon to play with a childs toy you probably can't learn to use a soldering iron. Emulation produces inaccuracies and adds input delay. That may be all fine and well for platformers, but precision input games become unplayable.

If you're that insistent on being thrifty, then consider a Chinese Flash cart instead of emulation. Although that itself may produce some inaccuracies, it shouldn't add input delay as well. At least, I've had no difficulty playing Gradius via EZ Flash for my GBA.

Collecting video games is itself not being smart with money, regardless of what version of a game you're getting. If you're going to complain about how modern game prices are high, then the obvious response is that you should have been buying those games years ago when they were cheaper. Again, if your concern is that you're wasting money or spending more for games than you should be, video game collecting isn't the hobby for you.

I don't 'collect' games, I grab whatever isn't price gouged on the reseller market. The rest I either emulate or stick on a Flash cart.

I'm not sure why this elicits your pity, but your pity is completely irrelevant because I'm having the time of my fucking life.

I already addressed this in my post. Your protestations sound to me like sour grapes, as if I'm supposed to sympathize for you being a Johnny-come-lately that didn't get games when he could have. Those games you complain about being gouged by the resale market I got years ago. You had ample opportunity to get them and chose not to, and now you think you have some sort of right to complain about prices and are entitled to deals.

The fact that you admit to having a flash cart and still purchase Japanese copies of games that got an English release runs counter to your assertion that you are smart with money. You question why this elicits pity and the reason is disgust at your lame excuses.

I'm sure he's either flaming you guys by trolling but in case he isn't, he does have a point that it doesn't make sense to collect sought after games if you care about how much you invest in it and if you can simply play them for much less money, especially if you've got a flashcart on an original console so you can play them 'authentically' anyway.

It's one thing to collect super famicom games specifically because they were never ported to the SNES but why go through all that trouble to collect japanse versions of western released games if you could simply get the western versions that are barely touched upon easily (INB4 "but they're censored so that means I can't play those games anymore, waah!") or better yet, just emulate the more expensive western version if money really is such a big deal to you. Is this some form of nerd peer pressure?
