Each of them have their strengths and weaknesses.

N64 was a powerful console, but the quality of games took a dive due to very limited space in cartridges. A lot of games got canceled due to that.

Saturn was very good at making 2D games because that was Sega aimed to do with its console. Cannot do transparencies. Due to the system being complicated to code on and shit marketing, very few western devices worked on it.

PS1 is an overall balanced system. It could do a bit of everything. Only complaints were the really flimsy discs that it uses. Piracy could easily be done on it.

I also enjoyed the games i had for the N64 more

There was also the fact that not every game for N64 required a memory pak to save and it had 4 controller ports without a tap.
Play station required extra purchases to even out with the N64, and the only games I can remember enjoying were

The PS1's cheap build quality is not acceptable for the thinking man. It may have quantity but this serves to annoy the thinking man as he has to wade through the shit to get to the good stuff.

The Sega Saturn may have good build quality but many of it's games are inaccessible to the thinking man. The arcade experience does arouse the man of deep thought.

However, the Nintendo 64 has fantastic build quality more so than the Saturn or PS1 could ever hope to achieve. It does not suffer from the flaws of quantity. this means that the thinking man is far more likely to get quality games that will arouse and stimulate his never ceasing thinking mind.

I used to prefer the N64, but honestly ever since I got a Saturn a year or so ago I haven't played much of my other fifth gen consoles. Sega's emphasis on pick up and play, smooth playing 3D games makes it EASILY the most fun to go back to. The N64 has a few great classics, but after playing them a few times, there really is no reason to ever pick them up again. The PSX has a similar issue, that is, unless you're a weeb. Depends for what reason:

>To own today
Saturn. It's got the most content of the three that you simply can't get anywhere else, and is the only one I bother to still aggressively buy games for nowadays

>The aggregate library
PS1, which is helping to keep my PSP alive 13 years on after I got it

>For the "highlights of the system" games
N64 by far, even if its library is the sparsest of the three and most of the standouts have gotten re-released in some form.

>For sentimental value
N64, since that was the only 5th gen console I had in its time.

They're all great in their own ways, though if I had to start from scratch again, Saturn and to a much lesser extent, N64 are the only ones of the three I could justify going out of my way to buy the original hardware for. However, the PS1 destroyed its competition with its extremely crisp graphics both 2D AND 3D (N64 games look sorta smeary, even with s-video on a CRT). The PS1 could pretty much play any Saturn game, graphics-wise.

>>4723697
The PS1 objectively had the most good games, but unless you were into JRPGs then relatively few of the console exclusives still hold up.

Most of the rest of the good games on the system are ports of arcade or PC games, ALL of which are better on their original platform, and in the age of emulation and GOG are easily played in those forms, thus rendering most of the PS1 library irrelevant.

The Saturn has much of the same problem, since it's basically nothing but arcade ports.

The N64 on the other hand has the least good games, but I'd argue it's aged the best, since its good games are mostly either console exclusives or Midway arcade ports that can't really be played properly in MAME (most of the racing games require multiple machines for multiplayer, which means the MAME versions are single-player only, which makes the N64 versions much more fun emulating the originals, and then there's stuff that just isn't emulated well at all like Gauntlet or Cruis'n Exotica).

So overall I'd say they should be ranked like this if you're being objective:

The first one ran at 5fps so it is pretty much unplayable, but the second one runs at a stable 30fps (60fps in cutscenes), has branching paths, the berserk move, and has widescreen support. Plus the Pandora's Box allows you to replay any stage with any dragon evolution, including some enemy dragons.

So the second one definitely holds up well, but the first one does not.

Also, the second game is an exclusive while the first one got ports on everything.

Orta is also great on the xbox.

Well, that's one more reason the N64 emulation scene is being ridiculed. The "code" is "thank you from project64", btw.

N64 because it's what I had as a child. I also like PS1 because I started getting into it when I was in high school.
