Is this game castlevania any good compared to the nes version?
Also castlevania thread.

>> No.4715332

Playing Castlevania IV for the first time as an adult on the SNES classic and I forgot how difficult this series is. I’m currently on stage 8 and I want to throw the controller against the wall, and I’m hearing that IV was designed to be a bit easier than the earlier titles.

>> No.4715341

Chronicles is just a remake of the original NES Castlevania. It's quite good.

The PSX version is a bit glitchy compared to the X68K original (which can be emulated btw), but it's okay. Brutally difficult though. Keep grinding subweapons until you get the herb which heals you.

If you were playing Castlevania Chronicles (original mode), you'd be throwing your controller at the wall as of stage 2. Personally I want to hang myself as soon as I get to the raft, and I think that's in stage 2 or 3.

It's pretty different

It's good but nowhere near the quality of the Amiga port.

I hope AVGN does a video on the DOS/Amiga and other home computer ports of Castlevania this year for halloween.

classic vr post, complete retard with no basic skill to beat an easy game.

>>4715305
yes it is one of the best in the classic series.

The Werewolf boss fight at the clocktower is one of the neatest concepts for a boss fight in the Castlevania series. Once of the best uses of a background I've seen as well.

No shit. You get full air control + 8 directional whip, it's really hard to fuck up in that game.

Stage 8 is pretty cheesy, just remember you can move while ducking to get through that part with the randomly appearing ceiling spikes.

Did /vr/ have an aneurism? Chronicles isn’t a remake of Castlevania for the NES, it’s a remake of 68k ‘vania you silly billies. Totally different game

>> No.4719474

It's an excellent game with lots of attention to detail and good level design. It also takes some inspiration from IV by letting you swing the whip straight down or at an angle while in the air, but doesn't give you the full eight directions or flail. As a result there's more versatility but it doesn't cheese anything.

The Classic mode retains the original difficulty setting and loops, so you should give that one a playthrough. Just keep in mind that Chronicles crops the screen differently in both modes compared to the original release, so the screen will be slightly stretched and the HUD will obstruct the top part of the screen. This can make seeing some bats a chore where it wasn't before, and a few neat graphical elements will be covered up for the most part.

It's a port of the 68k game which in turn is a remake/reimagining of the original CV.

Chronicles because it's so pretty. Really top notch 16 bit artwork on par with Rondo and SOTN.

I like it more. It has all the best boards from the NES version plus all new boards which are just as cleverly designed. I had a lot of fun with this one. I would say it’s probably my favorite Castlevania.

Of the 16-bit castlevanias, I think Dracula X was the most impressive one graphics-wise.
Rondo and X68K were good but DX has much more detailed and varied tilesets more reminiscent of SOTN.
X68k is nice, but graphically it's not all more impressive than what we saw on SNES or Mega Drive. I think the most impressive part of it is the giant painting on dracula's castle.

It's a different game entirely, it doesn't have any of the NES "boards".
