I hate being a typical /v/ curmudgeon, but did this fucking beast have ANY actual games besides the only good Zelda games ?

>> No.4712398

Mostly fmv heavy adventure game ports, like 7th Guest

>> No.4712401

The Apprentice
Mutant Rampage
Hotel Mario

Burn cycle is okay for a goof

>> No.4712457

It has the best version of 7th Guest. Yes, better than the PC version. Inca is pretty solid as well.

It's important to keep in mind that this isn't a video game console, but a home multimedia center, and that games were not a priority.

>It's important to keep in mind that this isn't a video game console, but a home multimedia center, and that games were not a priority.
Not sure why that matters. You literally just described the PS4.

>> No.4712484

>>4712472
It means that its library is primarily made up of movies, interactive encyclopedias, activity centers and other kinds of non-game titles. If you buy a random PS4 title, you're getting a game. If you buy a random CD-i title, chances are it's just a movie.

>> No.4712493

Hotel Mario was not that bad. Also The Apprentice was good, but IIRC, you'll need the video card to play it.

>> No.4712575

It has a Todd Rundgren album.

I still want the system for The Apprentice, Tetris, Pac-Panic, Mutant Rampage, Alien Gate, Hotel Mario, the Kingdom games, Mega Maze, and the Zelda games you mentioned. I remember trying it out with a really cool large trackball controller. For ammo, no the Xbox One X does have way more games I want for it than the CD-i, but I still want both systems. The Xbox One X moreso because that's where my friends are at and it plays a lot of great games. I just wish I can afford to play either though.

Hey. Life is Strange is pretty fucking good, desu

>> No.4713520

Hotel Mario is okay if you look at it as an Arcade game rather than a proper 90's Mario title.

But if you think the Zelda titles are any good, you've GOT to be kidding.

Nice meme there friend but gaming on the CD-i was basically a side effect and it's not optimized for it at all (hence why you barely saw any kind of action games except for the unholy triforce) but Philips in their infinite wisdom made a model that competed with the 3DO and that lot.

I guess if you lived by a Chinatown the VCD playback could come in handy.

>> No.4713642

Is it true that you needed to buy an add-on cart to play movie CD's, shouldn't that come out of the box?

>> No.4713667

>>4713642
There are multiple CD-i models, and the cart is built into several of them. The point was basically that you could buy a cheaper model with less functions, and then upgrade it later if you decided you wanted those functions anyway.

Is it possible to be TOO OLD for 4chan? Holy shit!

Apparently the CDi version of Street Fighter is good.

Also, I am in the same boat as you. I want to keep buying new and old games, although at the moment my problem is lack of space (and time).

>> No.4713934

Half the library (so games too) need that cart.

The CD-i didn't have a version of Street Fighter. You're thinking of the 3DO version, which is in fact very good.

According to the 2017 issue, it is the 64th best PC game of all time, beating out Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines at 65 and not as amazing as Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 at 63. I liked the other two games and the magazine compares it to Donnie Darko and Twin Peaks which is really cool stuff I like too. I see threads on /v/ hating it and loving the game, and the blurb in the magazine puts it in good company. Without playing it for myself all I can say that it looks like Kate and Max are the cute girls I look for in games. I will give it a try one day.

>>4713920
I will probably be the first to know, as I'm pretty far along in age. I do remember the CDi in kiosks in now defunct local chain stores. They featured it at a trade show and I had fun playing the system. If you mean VCDs of the Street Fighter films, I think they bootlegged a lot on VCDs. I have a few bi-lingual Chinese (I think) and Japanese VCDs of Evangelion I use in my Saturn to play around with the MPEG card. Couldn't find them at the moment, so here's some Street Fighter Movie games.

>>4713930
Not quite as I lack the space, time, and money to play the games I love. I even get stuck replaying old games I've already played because I still enjoy them and they are what I do have opposed to the now expensive Xbox One X and CDi.

In terms of 'walking simulators', its in a class of its own. Only really competing with Telltale's Walking Dead, which is another stunning story driven 'game'. I endorse Life is Strange fully, for the story and emotional draw. Granted, it definitely could have been more polished before release, but some would argue that it adds to the charm.

>> No.4714279

>>4712859
It looks like one of those telltale games with fake choices that don't affect the plot in any lasting way.

>> No.4714352

>>4714279
They effect the plot, for sure, just not the conclusion.

>> No.4714619

I'd ask why this thing does have a massive indie dev scene, what with it having no copywrite protection and being dirt cheap, but then I remembered modern indie devs were too lazy to actually do quality work for the Ouya.

Recently played one of these at a friends house. That controller was felt surprisingly good in the hands
