No but if you make a thread about showing off your collection then it should be expected that it will be judged on several points like the way it's presented and I can already tell nobody would like to see a very dull presentation.

>Also if you're collecting for size instead of collecting for games you enjoy playing you're collecting for the wrong reason.

Where did I explicitly state that's the reason for me to collect? I was only writing that others wouldn't be impressed by how small it is compared to most posted stations/collections here on /vr/. That in itself doesn't say anything about my personal motives to collect, which is being able to say I own a few games I really love to play -not exactly a compelling argument now that cheaper alternatives are there but psychological reasons, you know.

The place I'm living in has no room for shit, simple as that. Hence why there's no cable management whatsoever. That's also the reason I'm posting the consoles, since my games are all in boxes right now.

This is the only reason I post here. I enjoy the feedback. You learn how to be a better person by hearing how much a failure these people are just by their hatred. Honestly, that looks crisp. I enjoy how your setup looks inviting. I would feel no trouble just grabbing a controller and playing something. I stated that collections of all sizes are welcome and that these threads are about the love of video games. Your response was dismissive of that sentiment via your implication that collections aren't worth looking at if they aren't presented in an interesting way or if they're small. It was entirely unwarranted.

Well, sorry if you don't like my response not being in accordance with your feelings. I never stated that smaller collections don't have any value but I can't exactly see what's wrong with assuming something that is very likely to be the case.
I mean, this is more or less a general of people showing off their collection on an imageboard where people should talk more about board related matters instead of acting like they're on some subreddit or whatever screaming "guise look how awesome and unique I am" so you can't really expect from those same people to be humble in such a specific setting. And be honest, what would you rather see in a picture? There's a reason photography has become an artform.

Except the issue isn't caused by heat/humidity. Environmental factors speed up the process and exacerbate it but the issue is air bubbles in the aluminum data layer that were trapped during the manufacturing process. Not all discs have this (I've heard something like 20% of discs pressed around 2000 or earlier but can't speak to how accurate that is) but the earlier they were manufactured the higher the chance. Being stored in ideal conditions will slow the process but it's a manufacturing defect, the rot is going to occur if the disc was improperly pressed no matter how well they're kept. Sega discs seem to have rot at higher rates simply because they spent as little money on manufacturing as possible.

I had horrible success with preservation of my Game cube games. Untouched and rarely used titles started the failure. I sold the entire collection with the system for a few hundred as-is. I had no idea disc rot was a thing until after it happened to me. They start by acting up, and having errors at random points, until you get to the point they stop booting.

>how would i go about backing up my games
You can back up most Wii and GC games to a modded wii & still play them. Same with an OG xbox. You can mod the system and run games directly from an internal HDD. I have all of my PSX game iso's backed up on my computer, and play burned copies. Cart games work great with SD carts. Others will chime in that you can play most of these backup on computer based emulators as well, but I don't know much about this & never fiddled with it.

Its a tricky thing however. In order to preserve the software, you need to alter the game system/software ESPECIALLY in the Wii or xbox.

Basically collectors and game hoarders hate people like me. I don't participate in the market. CD based games can and should be backed up. Formats vary. There is software that is free that will make a ISO or bin&cue format.

Not all disc game suffer from disc rot, and In my time, I have only found this happening on my game cube titles. If I had to guess, 1/3 of them started failing in the last 2 years.

CV is my favorite, although 2 is my most played and 1 is super nostalgic for me and is always a good play, never got boring to me, to just play the first hour of re1 over and over when i had some time to kill. i didnt like 5 and even playing co op felt like a chore with some of my best xbox buddies...and fuck 7. RE4 isnt resident evil and fucked the franchise with its sequels but its still a 10/10 game regardless. i hope i get around to playing zero soon, i just got pubg and ive been playing the dogshit out of it to bother with any of my other games.
