How come the N64 emulation of any N64 emulator is subpar compared to the Gamecube and Wii emulation achieved by Dolphin Emulator? Why exactly is the N64 harder to emulate?

Because every unofficial N64 emulator is plugins based. Literally no plugins based emulator has ever been any good whatsoever. Look at ePSXe, it was plugins based and was fucking garbage, that's why everybody uses mednafen for PS1 emulation now despite how retarded and shitty it is to set that up even with with a frontend.
That leads to my second point: these plugins based emulators are shit but people still use and develop for them. PJ64 has a shitload of plugins and version releases by today, and up until mednafen put theirs out the same was true for ePSXe. Emufags don't have high standards to begin with, they only care if the games are able to actually run, amigafags were actually happy to emulate NES games at half speed and no sound. Fast forward to today and people are actually paying money every month for a closed source Wii U emulator that requires a high end machine, does not allow for any AMD support whatsoever, and can only reliably play one fucking game. Think about it.

Are you talking about Zelda BOTW? Which runs at 60 fps now, higher than the original. Plenty of other games run close to 100%, with more to come

CEMU has improved a lot in just a short time. And you only need it for the nintendo games anyway

>> No.4704941

N64 emulation is actually a lot better than people give it credit, and it's fairly easy to setup even.

There are games that don't work and games that have some bugs but vast majority of the great games you played as a kid work fine.

All the zeldas and marios work 100%, goldeneye and perfect dark work pretty great aside from the visual water bug in frigate in goldeneye and the sped up intro i think it works perfectly.

I think a lot of complains about N64 emulation is because people forget how laggy games ran on the N64 and they will run laggy in emulation as well no matter the graphics settings since the limitation of the original hardware is emulated even though you can up the resolution and other graphical settings.

Some games can be hacked to run smoothly at 60FPS but due to poor programming a lot of games will bug out or run out of sync if you try to make them run faster.

lags, low compatibility, sound issues, missing textures, ect.
And you can just forget about playing on an actual console like the wii with homebrew channel. Banjo Tooie's spiral mountain into a 5fps land of snow.

Anon, it's on the virtual console... Wii U exclusively for now, but it's there.

At any rate, if you want it so bad just get an everdrive and an expansion pak... though apparently Nintendo brand expansion paks are hard to come by for a reasonable price, and third party expansion paks destroy consoles.

Your information is outdated. Any N64 emulator that supports the Angrylion Renderer is multiple times more accurate than the Wii VC. Do some research

>> No.4705582

Reality co-processor is a proprietary technology that can't be emulate just like the PS3's cell or 360's ES-RAM. 8n addition to this, Gamecube, Wii, and Wii U are only emulatable because a mole in NOA leaked the source code. I think PC gamers turn a deliberate blind eye to this since it makes it seem a boon to their platform.

Paper Mario is giving me one hell of a time trying to get it to work properly. I tried it five years ago and it would glitch in toad town and when going to the pause screen and I tried it yesterday to play Paper Mario Pro Mode (A hard mode hack) and even used some special plugins and it only shows the background but not my characters. If I disabled the plugin then I get the same sort of working emulator that I had five years ago with the really laggy pause screen.

Will the n64 flashcart play Paper Mario Pro Mode? That and Super smash brothers are really the only games I want to play.

n64 is easy to emulate, but it doesn't work 100% with default options, so casuals think the emulation is bad.
basically you need to download a graphics plugin and some games need certain settings.

n64 emulation being bad is a meme at this point.

I'm using project 64 and this graphics plugin:
https://github.com/gonetz/GLideN64/releases

It seems to work really good on the games I tried so far. There's even actual widescreen support that doesn't stretch the image. Are the people who say n64 emulation still sucks using this one? Last update was at the start of this year.

Anyone here know how to get Project64 to use my dedicated Nvidia graphics card instead of the integrated Intel card on Windows 10? Already tried going thru the Nvidia control panel and telling it to use the Nvidia card for the pj64 exe file, but it just ignores it, based on the zero'd out performance data for the Nvidia card from Task Manager Performance tab.

Then nothing came of it

Maybe when the cycle accurate N64 emulator is closed to finish, some group will fork it and use as many speed ups as needed. Or not.
