Funny, I was playing the GB version of this game doing a solo quest, and inside a pachisi track (the one above that spirit bitch) and after a random encounter, for some reason the game bugged and I got infinite experience until I got lvl 99. Not that I regret it, after the first 1000 combats you grow tired of them.

Haven't touched it in while, but played some DQ 3 recently, for the first time. Got to Romaria (? that's the name right) and around there fights started to be brutal. And I felt that I could try to risk it, push towards next dungeon or whatever and hope that my mp and healing items carry me there and back, which seems unlikely, or I could spend some evenings grinding getting some gear and levels and avoid wasted trip to just die.

I assume you mean it's one of those game where you don't need to grind when you know everything perfectly, form a perfect team, and optimize equipments, spell usage and go directly where you need to without having to find your way.

I'm sad. I think dq7 was probably one of the most slept on games in the entire series but it had tons of quality content in the game.

I can definitely see the hate in the game since its legit over 110 hours long but I enjoyed how it put virtually everything together from all of it's predecessors and made it a love letter to the series of sorts.

That, and something about the "small world" at the very start of the game, it got me hooked in a way that I cant really explain or feel quite like most other games

It attempts to speed up the pacing a bit, but only in places. It comes across as truncated and shortened at times, but still painfully long at others. That being said, some might say the long, slow pace of 7 is one of the best parts about it, so your mileage may vary.

One of the largest flaws, at least for me, was the combat. They switched from a 2D perspective to showing 3D models, which means that every attack is lengthened by having the animations play out. In addition, the US localization has a fair bit of slowdown when selecting abilities during battle, which gets pretty annoying. Both of these factors can add on multiple seconds of dead air to each round of combat, which in a game with as many battles as 7 ends up adding *hours* of empty space overall.

One could also raise points about the localization taking away the charm of the original, the extra content coming across as forced at best and the glitches (including a softlock) but at least for me the really burdensome combat was enough to turn me off pretty hard. I'm usually alright with the remakes, but 7 is one of the few DQ entries where I'd say the original is almost entirely better than the remake.

the fuck are you talking about?

whether its DQV on SFC or PS2, you still have to grind quite a bit.

I played the SFC remake of DQ3, though it requires less grinding than the NES version, there is still a fuck ton of grinding to be done.

DQ as a series has always required grinding.

Just because its not fuckin Disgaea levels of obscene grindin doesn't change anything.

I'm near the end and I was wondering: what's the best version of DQ3?

Be careful with unlocking quests. If you just use something like an Action Replay code to unlock everything, you'll unlock a quest that can't be completed and your game can permanently glitch, which can persist even if you delete and create a new save file.
The glitches can be fairly tame, such as messing with the rendering of a fountain to straight up making random quests impossible to complete.

Hero, Cleric, Warrior, Mage and turn the Mage into your Sage is easy and works. Mage is the worst part of that party by far, but Increase is one of the only ways to avoid getting fucked by annoying enemies like Boss Troll in the remakes because of how much they jacked the HP up and Bikill is always good.

It works like this,More physical classes and a healer is best for the early game but you will have to switch them a lot later because physicals don't learn spells,Ideally having a whole party if magic users will help you on the long road but will make the early game way harder and if you get a mage don't change classes until you get bikill/Oomph,Their final class is up to you trough but it is recommended that everyone at least was a cleric and mage once

By far the easiest party I’ve done a run with was Hero/Fighter/Cleric/Cleric. You can run through areas at low levels pretty easy since you’ll never be hurting for heals. And you can use the clerics’ Infernos for groups/high defense enemies early on if you need to. Then once you get the chance, make one of the clerics a sage to get the few useful mage spells

If you’re playing the remakes, I’d suggest always gunning for whips and boomerangs when you get the chance. I almost always have at least two characters using one or the other. DQIII tends to have pretty big groups of enemies so anything that can hit multiple monsters is super useful. And again it saves MP for healing meaning you can get through areas early at lower levels
