What games do you feel don't get enough recognition on /vr/ that people should play?

Hmm, I actually played Twisted Metal not too long ago because a lot of people say it's great.
I thought it was a rather clunky game. I only played the first one though.
To be honest, I was never a big fan of "vehicular combat" games like Destruction Derby either.

>> No.4676021

There's this game for the genesis called Gadget Twins. It's got an art-style that reminds me heavily of Humongous Entertainment's games. It was also one of the first shmups I've played.

I highly recommend you guys try it.

It was clunky and imprecise feeling back then, I'm sure now it feels downright bad if you haven't played it before and know what to expect. It's also not a game that will impress you playing alone, exploring well regarded retro titles. Partially cause expectations would be high, especially for the game to feel awesome and be a great, fair challenge like so many well regarded retro games are, and Twisted Metal is more about putting as much shit on the screen as the console can handle and then having it all explode, awesome in-era but probably underwhelming if you don't have the memories. A lot of people will just say it's only good in multiplayer but I wouldn't say ONLY necessarily, but that is probably your best chance of having some fun with it nowadays

Well-known but underrated: Banjo-Tooie, people shit all over it because attention spans are short among 90% of the population so they need something as fast as the first Banjo-Kazooie game and cry when Tooie isn’t that

I'm just thankful that 'rarity' guides and 'Hidden Gems' are mostly just for idiotic console peasants.

It's quite amazing, considering that cancer like Phantasy Star Online: Episode 1 & 2 (not Plus) goes for $100+ while the Xbox version goes for like $8. Sucks to be a Nintendo manchild doesn't it? I wouldn't be surprised if there are less copies of the Xbox version just cause no one wanted it, but no one gave enough of a shit to calculate the number that were produced.

Let's take a similar, but not retro (2001) game that's similar to Twisted Metal called Bumper Wars. You can get this shit for like $2 off eBay. How many were produced? Definitely less than Phantasy Star Shitline, in which you're better off playing an offline version of PSO Blue Burst, anyway.

this is seriously worth it just for low poly fist of the north star intro https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzGPzdlWENk

the combat is pretty fun too, and is pretty faithful to the anime. Too bad the gameplay-to-cutcene ratio is horrible and you cant skip them the first time through. At the beginning it was charming as I somewhat remembered the story, but the later chapters got really boring as its literally 10 minutes of cutscenes for a 2 minute fight.

That final battle when I realized how to get the best ending was such a huge "THIS IS NEXT GEN" moment for me.

I think Die Hard Trilogy should be talked about more. It was arguably the best PS1 light gun game released in the generation, the racing game where you find bombs was fucking so much fun, and the 3rd person shooter was pretty decent too.

First survival horror game, with most of its cliches even. Key cards, monsters, ammo management, cutscenes n all that jazz. It's not as good as Sweet Home, but at least it's actually an RPG.

>>4681202
But honestly, this is dumb. This game is not underappreciated, as it's primarly absolutely fucking unknown, at least in the wester community, where we are.
We could post a shit ton of underappreciated, obscure Japan exclusives, because how the fuck would anyone appreciate something they don't know.
At least pick a translated game or something. There are a lot of good games with translation patches, that nobody appreciates. Neither the game, nor the hard work that went into translating.

This one, Dynamite Cop, the sequel to Die Hard Arcade. One of the best beat em ups ever, funny as fuck and the Dreamcast port had some nice extras, like a whole gallery of concept art by Tony DeZuniga (the guy who created Jonah Hex and also worked on Comix Zone and Die Hard Arcade).
I created a thread about it some weeks ago and had 1 reply.

Even the first Dynamite Deka/Die Hard Arcade isn't very popular here. I believe they did the awesome Dynamite Deka PS2 remake, that includes the whole original game, to test the waters for a third game, but no one cared.

Sad that beat em up fans are mostly dirty latinos obsessed with the same 2D games for almost 30 years. They should try something different. I like it more than Spike Out, that is also pretty good and forgotten.

Its remake wasn't half bad either, but the music suffered a little. They lost (or due to copyrite, couldn't) keep that Ecstacy of Gold/Ennio Morricone vibe.
