Easy enough, just start building two coasters side by side as if you were building a single coaster, split them up and start building two separate coasters that are about the same length and cover vaguely the same areas that eventually join back to their respective stations.

Test them, see if one ends up back at the station quicker than the other(s) and adjust the length or features of one or multiple tracks until you get it so that both trains end up back at the station at the same time.

Job done.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is a sequel to Castle Wolfenstein, does not make it retro. RCT2 is allowed because someone talked with the mods about it several years ago, and while I agree that Locomotion could be considered retro in the same way no one have had that discussion.

I simply think that it's best to do stuff in small steps. Put TTD in the OP and discuss Locomotion if you want, but don't turn a roller coaster general into a city builder just yet.

As the resident realism nut I agree. Schwartzkopf is essentially the only company that ever curved a lift hill using a chain, but there are some weird exceptions like the Zamperla Volare model which has a spiral lift operated by a rotating arm that pushes the train. (https://rcdb.com/9515.htm#p=86879)) These rides are so fucking disgusting though, the whiplash is really bad. Ironically the North Korean one is the only smooth, fun one to ride in the world.

The general rule of thumb is that if it isn't schwartzkopf keep the lift hill straight unless it is a tire operated lift like in the junior coaster.

Always make sure the bottom of the roll is the same or smaller width than the top

You could probably condense the loop to take up less space and it would still look natural, but you would likely have issues getting the immelmann to fit. If I was putting this layout in a park I would definitely cover the bottom of the loops with a tunnel, or put trees there to make the swoop by at 100km/h seem more exciting. I figure you could tighten up the loop and start the immelmann as you did, than take the dive over the mcbr rather than under.

It's a lot of management but you can really get away with the default options for most shops and stalls. If you can succeed at SC3K, you should be fine with RCT. You have to be alert and watch areas a little more than SC3K, but the challenge is more about designing rides that work, rather than planning road systems.

You'll like this, then. RCT gives you a very in-depth look at finances, including the overall monthly income/expenses (pictured), graphs for value over time, weekly income, and cash over time.

Every ride/shop/attraction also has an income and costs tab that tells you how much it costs you to run it per hour, as well as how much it earns per hour, and a lifetime profit amount.

Finally, there's a list that shows everything in the park, and it can be filtered many ways, including profit.

The game gives you a great sense of where your money is going, and where it's coming from.

Ride excitement loosely translates to the amount guests are normally willing to pay. You may have to round down but its usually very close. On a new ride that is less than a year old guests are a lot more generous and may pay as much as double the normal amount so if your ride is like 9 excitement you might be able to get ~$18 out of it. After like a year the "new ride" attribute turns off and everyone will leave so you have to pay close attention

They talked about this a bit in the paper manual for RCT1. It boils down to the amusement park business being driven by novelty. That's why real life parks are always trying to put out something new. Sometimes it works, like inverted coasters. Sometimes it doesn't, like stand-up coasters. Right now, the new hotness is wing coasters and wooden hybrids.

RCT is only now starting to show its age, since these coasters have become popular in the last 5 or so years.

Every other example of a curved lift irl uses a tire lift like in >>4714497 which is what you see on the junior coaster in-game, other than some extreme outliers like the Zamperla Volare.

So in-game? Looping coasters are the only thing that can acceptably have a curved lift hill that isn't designed for it, with no more than a 180 degree turn in the lift. Junior coasters and spirals are meant to use it and that's fine.

Building a few islands, I managed to bump up population to a bit over 50000.
It wouldn't go much higher than that though, and I was basically as done as I could be with the space I allotted myself.

I had reserved some locations for arcologies, not that I'd ever reach those with all this space being used by water. Being pretty much done, I decided "Fuck it." then cheated to unlock arcologies to place where I wanted them to be, as well as laying down a rudimentary subway system. Round 1 of the new design challenge is live!

To start things off, we'll be doing knot-style coasters with more than 10 inversions. Any type of coaster is allowed, so get creative with your designs.

Also I'm not gonna be specific about the definition of a knot, as long as your ride twists over itself a decent amount you'll be fine.

Good luck and have fun building! I'll compile a strawpoll and imgur album at the end of the month.

Haven't played RCT2 in over a decade so I'm sorry if this is a really stupid question, but is it normal for the majority of the premade rides to have the "design includes scenery which is unavailable" and "vehicle design not available" errors? I get that you unlock more with research but even after researching a ton, as well as in the custom sandbox scenario that has everything unlocked, they still show up on a bunch of coasters, which makes me wonder if I screwed something up while installing OpenRCT2 and custom content.

My babby's first roller coaster. Obviously shit and nothing special but I'm looking for tips and wondering what numbers I should be aiming for. Should I be going for different stats with different coaster types? I think I should probably work on making it more compact and use space more efficiently, but I'm finding it more a process of trial and error at the moment. One tip that's not 100% required, but still a good idea, is to get the train entering the station at 29MPH or lower, that way if the brakes fail there won't be a crash. I usually go about this by making an upward helix near the end to take away some of the momentum

Getting E>I with a woody is very hard to do, but its a realistic goal on most other coaster types.

General tips: Whenever the train is going fast (>35km/h or 22mp/h), bank your turns. There are some minor exceptions if you're building for realism, but in terms of stats you always want this.

Add a brake run (http://www.angelfire.com/retro/fossil/RCT2/BlockBrakes.html)) at the end of the ride to slow the train before it enters the station, so it doesn't crash or go from 60 to 0 instantly.

Keep the small turns for areas with slower speeds, something like the bottom of that drop is probably too tight. Same goes for s-bends, the one on your ride would seriously hurt.

And to help with getting E>I; scenery, other rides, paths and shops nearby boost your excitement. Tunnels do too. What you see in the test results is difference to what happens after you decorate it

Here's my second attempt in case anyone's interested. I do have a question about my second lift hill though. If my vehicle is going fast enough to coast halfway up that second hill, should I have my chain lift only extend down halfway or have it cover the whole hill like I have it currently? Should I even be putting two lift hills on one coaster?

>> No.4720838

>>4720707
I would try and avoid having a turn right after a big drop as that makes for some nasty lateral Gs. If your track goes back up after a drop you can regulate the speed so that you aren't taking turns too fast (see the bumbly beach woodie for a good example of this). I like to think of a coaster as having a "speed budget" where it has a certain number of rises, drops and curves in which it dumps momentum before it slows down too much.

Looking at your ride, you're definitely losing a lot of speed from turns immediately after large drops, if you eliminate those you'll probably be able to get away with a single lift hill.

Generally, avoid building a second lift hill. If you need more momentum, redesign your coaster around a higher first lift hill.

Also, you should preferably have your highest hill directly after the first drop. That way, each drop can be slightly lower than the last but still holding reasonable speed.

Guys, how do you play RCT?
I've played the game over the years since I was a teen, but only now I've finished all the easy and expert parks in RCT1.
"Beating" the parks is kinda the goal, but now I feel I want to do something pretty with them - which to me is impossible in the timeframe allowed.

Do you play scenarios and decide yourself when the park is "finished"? Or you play sandbox only? How do you play?

As the other posters said, don't use multiple lift hills. That totally interrupts the ride. Your coaster is still really spread out for a woody. Different coaster types demand different design schemes. For woodies, you want lots of hills and turns at lower speeds.
Think back to high school physics: potential energy. When the car is at a high altitude, it is going to move slowly (most of its energy is potential), and when it is on a low piece of track, it has high speed (most of its energy is kinetic). So the "speed budget" of your coaster is directly related to your "height budget." The higher your lift hill (the source of energy in this system), the higher your maximum speed.
For woodies specifically, try to maximize that "air time." I see you already have 6 seconds on a 2 minute coaster, which is not bad at all, but it will go up even more if you add more hills. The car gets "air time" as it goes over the peak of a hill at just the right speed. Personally I don't care for inversions on woodies, but even if you are going to use them two is probably too many.

The "lots of curves low to the ground" kind of design like you have there is great for the wooden mine train coaster, if you want to experiment with other coaster types. A sprawling, spread out design works for those too, while woodies are usually more compact than what you posted.

Those really need to be well-integrated into their surroundings to make sense. That design is still a great example of the rolling hills/bunny hops that woodies should use, with the helical curves at slightly higher altitudes (appropriate for the speed). I think the two parallel tracks rising and falling right next to each other is still a form of "compactness" that is appropriate for a woody.

tfw I am Oldshoes.

I don't know if SC4 is retro enough to post here, but the guides can be found on oldshoes.ca, my website.

It's not has hard as it looks mang, I swear. A huge "tip" that a lot of people don't think about is working WITH terrain vs through it. Use the landscape to create interesting shapes in your city blocks. I struggle the most with large, flat spaces where my mind has to work to fill in every gap.

Picking a nice map is always a good way to help with this. Pic is a BMP you can import into SC3K that I created myself. Has lots of terrain features to work around.

Also trees bro, NEVER ENOUGH TREES. 4/20 PLACE TREES.

Force yourself! I find I am most creative when I am forced to deal with constraints and limitations within the medium I'm working with. A completely blank canvas is very intimidating. Also start small, like, start by making a small town/village on the edge of the map that will end up being a small satellite town to the main "city" in other areas.

Last pic and this is the default Tokyo map.

I can't remember where I got the city I'm currently making, but some googling of SimCity 3000 maps lead me to it.

I also make my own with the map creator, fantastic little program and still works in Win7:
