Do you enjoy GRAFIX of old, /vr/?

Sometimes I get tired of all this fancy garbage and need my low-res/low-poly/grainy fix.

How long until that becomes a new indy trend?

Something went wrong with the other thread, trying again.

>How long until that becomes a new indy trend?

Probably never because no one likes those graphics outside of a few people.

I kind of hope so. I'd really like a revival of Final Fantasy VII-IX style RPGs. Maybe indie could be the vessel for my dreams.

Odd, I was going to say I see a lot of Indie developers go for the 8-bit to early '3D' graphics as a nostalgia pull

32bit/64bit era wasnt that good from the aging perspective, there are few exceptions with some good art direction, but in general the graphics were not so good and most of the time it felt clunky.

32/64 bits 3D Games that aged well
Virtua Fighter 2
Tekken 3
Final Fantasy IX
Boku no Natsuyasumi
Twilight Syndrome (there is only one in 3D, cant remember the title)

Nah, because most indie developers are from the early 90s, it'll take awhile for them to die. In about 50+ years you'll start seeing 3D retro indie games.

I agree. I also really enjoy the visuals of low poly count games like Silpheed and Starblade and their use of solid colours. Also Bubsy 3D to a lesser extent. Yes, the controls are horrible, but the blocky solid-coloured levels give me a raging boner

It kills me that innovation largely died with the SNES/PS1 era. I think back then, games were much cheaper to create, just look at the credits after say Mega Man X or Metal Gear Solid vs the tons of credits after Assassin's Creed 3.

With games getting so expensive to produce, we get stuck with sequel, sequel, sequel, reboot, sequel and they're getting progressively worse and unimaginative.

I miss the old days of Colony Wars: Vengeance, then taking a break and playing Parasite Eve or Metal Gear Solid.
