Good times.

It's bizarre that most modern games don't try to encourage this anymore. I mean, yeah, online is the future, but couch multiplayer is great, too. But you only see it in fighting games anymore, which most casual people don't even like.

Like, fuck, I remember buying Burnout Paradise and firing it up when I had some friends over, assuming it'd have split-screen multiplayer only to find out it did not. There used to be a time where racing games without split-screen multiplayer just weren't made.

Counter-Strike is what killed my group of friends.
We'd usually play a lot of different vidya on weekends, N64, PS1, Dreamcast, lots of great games from fighting to racing, to co-op stuff.
Then the C-S craze took over and every weekend they'd just go to a cyber (basically a LAN place where you'd pay like $1 per hour to play), and just waste the entire weekend there playing the same game. I remember going with them once, and the smell of that place, oh god.

>> No.4669789

Our house LAN parties are the same as they always were, except we drink less now because we don't have to prove anything anymore and shits fun even without getting hammered, and we don't exchange porn anymore because broadband is a thing now so everyone already has the stuff they like. Good times.

>eating pizza and chips all night
>staying up until you literally fall asleep in your chair

I honestly miss these days more than anything, but also feel good enough that I can always cherish the memories. As a kid in the 90's felt so simple and liberating. I'm glad my parents (and my friends parents) allowed me to experience these moments as I don't think they are aware of how much an impact they had on my life. Nothing is ever going to bring those days back, you can still create them now and again, but the feeling of innocence is gone unfortunately and I think that's what made those nights so damn special.
