This is Shaun's Virtual Pinball Cabinet Build!

Hahaha, my wife will hate me for this, but I love pinball and in desperate need of friends. "Instead of paying into our children's education, you bought a virtual pinball cabinet", she said and "I'm very close to leaving you", she said. Hahaha!

Anyway, what are your favorites? Also, check out my Youtube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4q7WSUonMzc, haha!

No. I don't. But if you play pinball specifically you know why VR Pinball is leagues better than just a long screen. Especially if you do yes build a pinball controller. I really liked this one I used to play in the 90s. I think it was an American machine (IINM, the majority of pinball is American). It had a marionette head on it with moving eyes and mouth. It talked. I think it insulted you for playing poorly or something but I'm not sure as I didn't speak English well enough yet back then to have clear memories of what the machine actually said. Just makes more sense for it to taunt players than encourage them, I would guess.

There is a large pinball museum in Japan, as well as several small pinball-centric game centers, and pinball in other general "retro" game centers. There seems to be a reasonable amount of serious Japanese players, and Sega actually did produce EM games for Japan during the 70s, which can still be found at the aforementioned retro game centers.

And yeah, that's the guy. My family owned a bar back then with several arcade machines in it but not Funhouse. My mother couldn't understand why I'd want to go down the street to waste money on different machines when we had a dozen of our own to play. Well, we didn't have Funhouse, Legend of Kage or Liquid Kids and I fucking loved those. We'd get a couple thousand lire and my brother and I would play for an hour or so (200 lire in the early 90s was 1 play for most games) then get ice creams.
Nostalgia is a helluva drug.

In my copy of Pinball Arcade, in Twilight Zone, the ball oscillates into the shooter lane and then out to the open auto-plunger zone. If you don't time the plunge right it just hits the post separating the two lanes, and the skill shot can't be hit consistently. Really bizarre glitch, can't understand why the table doesn't reset or something. Maybe next time I restart the game it'll be gone.

Imagine a.. field? What do you call the part the pinball rolls on?

Anyway imagine a field of play with "planets" and the gravity is simulated by curving the field down toward the planets. The curves of course overlap because you're constantly under the effect of all gravity in space.
And the black hole is an actual hole that ends up being vertical slope to simulate the event horizon, because no matter how fast your ball gets it isn't getting out of there.

And you would make it a vacuum in there to have as little friction as possible. Of course, infinite orbit would be impossible, but still.

Hobbit is solid. I don't have much of a grasp on the rules beyond shooting the creatures that pop out, and a basic multiball from locking balls on the ramps, but it seems like a great game. The "moving" drop target is cool as well.

Dialed In is probably the JJ game I like the most so far. Again, my knowledge of the rules of these games is kindergarten-tier compared to the WMS games I've been playing for ages, but I'm beginning to grasp the basic modes of Dialed In, and it has the best layout of the JJ games.

I really don't know how I feel about Pirates yet. I played it twice at the show and made barely any progress both times. I feel that spending time with it would reveal a great game, the rules do seem very deep, but no place near me has it so I can't practice. The spinning disks can be quite a "fuck you", though.

TNA is still my favorite new game by a long shot. Rob Zombie is good as well, and I'm really fucking hyped for Nightmare Castle since I love Alice Cooper, and his theatrics fit pinball like a glove.

But thankfully, it looks like they're going to be massively slowing down their release schedule from here on out. And it couldn't have come any sooner. In other news, after Kingpin (hey, I just realized something...), what other games could be made. Everyone says that the ruleset for Pinball Circus isn't deep enough. Does anyone have an opinion on if the playfield is set up so that a deeper ruleset could be made?

If not, are there any other games that were never mass produced that might receive the Kingpin treatment?

Remember the first volumes of Yu-gi-oh, where they were playing all sorts of mundane games? Wouldn't it be great if they played pinball in one of those games? I dream of a pinball manga, where they would compete in high-stakes tournaments on imaginary machines with impossible mechanics. Like a machine where... the playfield is underwater! And there's little merpeople swimming around in the playfield, and the bad guy is mean to them and hits them with the ball, but the protagonist finds a way to help the merpeople and they repay him by winning the game for him when all seems lost. Goofy shit like that. It might seem ridiculous, but there's actually a manga like that about those claw crane games. It's only on its first chapter though, or at least that's all that's been translated. Here it is:

1. I like mini-playfields.
2. If given the option, I prefer to play modern games. (DMD era onward).
3. I get excited about theme.
4. I love gimmicks and only sometimes am I awed by more subtle aspects of design like shot layout.
5. I play Pinball FX 3 and Pinball Arcade.
6. I downloaded and installed VPX successfully but couldn't figure out how to make it work.

On the topic of giving and Pro Pinball, you know what would fucking awesome beyond belief? Farsight finally acknowledging the undisputable fact that their physics modeling sucks humongous hairy donkey balls, and proceeding to license the Pro Pinball physics for PA.
Of course, that'll never happen, as it would cost them a few shekels and they'd have to tweak all the tables to play correctly with the new (to them) god-tier physics model. But I guess we can all dream...

Oh, and while on the job of changing things, I really hoped they'd finally change the weak-as-shit sound effects for the physical components of the tables (flippers, bumpers, slingshots, etc.), and especially the nudging sound effect. That shit sounds more like an antique wooden cabinet being shoved around than a pinball table. Is there even any point in having a sound effect for nudging in the first place?

I'm going to a pinball place with some friends later tonight. These are the machines, although in pictures I also see some that aren't listed like Batman and the Twilight Zone.

As a pinball pleb, are any of these good?

Pretty solid lineup. TNA and Dialed In are real winners. Wasn't huge on The Hobbit but I only played maybe two games. Also only played a couple of games of Houdini but that showed more promise to me. Was going to buy a Star Trek but TNA came along and my money was better spent there. Creature is a classic. The remakes are being remade for a reason. I love the multiball on Aerosmith where the balls spill out of the toy chest and you can wait and up to 6 balls. Haven't played Argosy or GotG

I started looking up the games and yeah, now I see that those remakes are of games that are considered to be some of the best in history.
Thanks for the insights, now I can pretend to be a know-it-all for my friends.

In this case, the phrase "swinging target" does not refer simply to any hittable object that swings, but to a standup target moving back and forth like you would see on the games on that list.

to achieve a high score by mastering the skills required to do so through a mix of real time flipper control and an understanding of the tables score rules and modes and which shots are the most profitable which all in all all equates to fun unless you have low perseverance and a low i.q in which case go back to playing with your cock in the bath or playing things which require no challenge, reflexes or brain power.

Some people like the anime waifus from the Persona series of video games. Me? I fantasize about being manhandled by the anthropomorphized glowing purple ramps of Genesis.

Actually, my shitpost gives me an idea. Wouldn't it be cool if someone did anthropomorphized pinball machines? The Japanese have a word for it... Gijinka. Yes, I have some money for this. Methinks I shall commission something at some point. In fact... methinks it could be the new popular fetish in the year 2020.

Which one would be the best one to make into a human? I know about Bride of Pinbot, but neither she nor Pinbot really look like their respective playfields.

With Japan's arcade gaming scene being relatively alive, do you think a modern pinball game made specifically for Japanese audiences would cause the hobby to catch on there?

There are so many tables that are covered in hot chicks regardless of theme. What would the point even be?

>> No.4704080

>>4703732
I think about this question so much. It's tricky. It would have to be the perfect theme, one that's popular in both the US and Japan. Like Pokemon, for example. And importing pinball is expensive. Maybe Japan can import Thunderbirds, which is being manufactured in China. That might be cheaper to ship.

The problem with starting a pinball scene is that they're hard to repair. You need pinball repairmen to have a (large) pinball scene, and you need a large pinball scene to have pinball repairmen. I know people can repair their own machines, but most people don't want to do that.

You don't just have to ship the Pinball machine to Japan, you have to ship some of the replacement parts there to.

Japan's famous for having good electronics manufacturing, you'd think they'd be manufacturing pinball there already. Weren't they at one point? There's a story where I think Data East or Sega was manufacturing locally in Japan for a while, but I actually don't know much about that. I could be wrong.

There were several Nintendo pinball games, like one or two Kirby pinball games, a Mario pinball game, Metroid pinball, and several pokemon Pinball games. Those videogames all did well in Japan, as far as I know. That and many other reasons make it seem like pinball would be popular in Japan already. But it's not. So I guess starting these things up is harder than it seems. Or maybe in two years pinball in Japan will be back.

FYI, there's this pinball arcade in Amerikamura in Osaka.
