Wouldn't say it ruins the game since you cant get it too early but holy fuck is this the most broken item in history. It's literally a win button.Kills anything almost instantly and heals you while it does. Destroys Galamoth in seconds. Takes out Dracula with no effort whatsoever. Whenever I tried to play SMW with someone they would always ask why I never use the cape nor the blue yoshi and actively avoid them instead, then I would reply that you're not even playing the game anymore if you use those and they would look at me like I was crazy or something.

Ultima, Cure3, Thunder3, Ice3, Luminaire, Flare, DarkMatter, the triple techs, MegaElixir, etc.

All of them make the standard battles and sometimes even boss battles trivial once you attain them.

That's usually the point though, you get those spells at the very end of the game and they reward you for getting that far by letting you feel powerful. It really gives you a feeling of progression when you can just stomp enemies that would have given you trouble before. I know I felt like a badass sending random mobs to space with BlackHole. Usually that kind of thing is impractical for bosses though, outside deeply broken games like FFVI.

Pic related can be an actually tricky platformer at times, but if you have the parachute it pretty much ruins any sense of challenge to the game. The final boss against the snake is a complete joke with it.

That's why the game punishes you pretty harshly by removing it if you're bad enough to lose several times in a row while in possession of such a broken item. I think it's cool that an item is capable of tricking a mediocre player into thinking they're well prepared to trivialize anything until the game gets just hard enough to give them their first game over (probably on the genie stages), and from then on they're in over their head, wishing they had played the whole time without such a cheap item.
