Don't play the mega drive version or any other port. You need to be playing Super Street Fighter 2 TURBO which was the last SF2 release and the one everyone still plays (don't worry about the Switch release that no one gives a shit about).

You can play Super SF2 Turbo on MAME and also on fightcade (which is similar to MAME but allows you to play live people).

To actually git gud at this game, you need to spend hundreds of hours, preferably with a joystick controller, to the point where you know all the intricacies of all 16 characters. Even if you hate a certain character type (you will probably like Sagat, Ken, and Ryu to begin and hate characters like Zangief and Dee Jay) you need to learn them all so you can better fight against them.

You need to be able to pull of a special move the first time every time, understand spacing of fighters and how much of the screen each move controls, when and when not to use your super move, etc.

Most people who play this have been playing for two decades so you will get your ass kicked many times before you finally "get' it.

Not that guy but I've been into fighters for a long long time and if you're interested in actually playing SF2 fightcade is your best option.

If you want to play the Genesis version in single player go for it, but don't kid yourself that you're getting good at the game. Fighting the cpu too much teaches terrible habits and really only teaches you how to cheese a shitty opponent who cheats.

ST is better than HDR or USF2 but don't say it's the last SF2 release. It's the fifth release, there are seven releases.
