Is there any retro games you still play multiplayer on?

I've jumped on Quake 3 a few times, but it's pretty dead. CS 1.6 is still going strong, though.
What's your favorite multiplayer game?

>> No.4660265

Yep, still play Quake 3 myself. It is pretty dead but you should try playing on CROM FFA (the one with the green text), there's almost always at least 2 or 3 people even during the deader hours and you frequently get full games.

Aside from that... not really. I don't even play RTS online anymore, I just dick around with custom content and AI. Singleplayer is just more relaxing and enjoyable for me.

>> No.4660282

defrag still alive and kicking though, that's all I play online really.

Sacrifice. wait, shit, thats not "retro" by this boards retarded standards is it

Close enough.

I play UT/QIII locally with my nephew every once in a while. If Assault servers were still populated I'd probably still be playing UT online. Doom co-op once every couple years... I need to get back into that stuff.

Every six months or so I'll go back to Cs 1.6 for a few hours. But everyone just plays dust /2 on repeat or totally random maps with obscure mods that I'm not interested in.

No, not close enough. The board doesn't allow ps2, xbox or cube, it shouldn't allow 2000 or newer pc games like RCT2 or Sacrifice.

Starcraft: Brood War, but only UMS maps because I was not gifted with Korean finger magic.

>>4661973

To be fair, RCT2 and Baldur's Gate II are both direct sequels to games that qualify and the sequels are more or less identical in terms of the technology used to make them and the actual gameplay, and it doesn't make a lot of sense to cuck the sequels out of threads on /vr/.

I don't play anymore, but I used to have shitloads of fun playing HL team fortress.
I got pretty gud with the scout.

I enjoyed CS too, but I wasn't as successful at it for some reason.

The CPMA community is still pretty active if you don't mind the fast weapon switching and air strafing. They have a pretty active discord with duel-matching bots and so on.

There's also a handful of people playing Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2, see http://jkdf2.net.. You'll need to get on their Discord to join an actual game though, probably.

there is people playing there if you are intersted

>> No.4662256

For the most part, CS 1.6 is still alive because it doesn't have as much of a skill floor as Quake 3 has. It's not an easy game to get into in one go, it requires quite some learning, and some players just don't bother practicing because they want something easy to play.

I religiously play a marathon of all Half-Life games at least once every year.
I also play sporadically build engine games, the three classics mostly, and Doom and Heretic, the infinite amounts of mods keeps those games fresh, as for Hexen I just don't like it enough for give it another replay.

As for multiplayer games I also play Quake 3 a few times, but it's pretty dead, so I go to Quake Live if I don't find people to play in Q3.

A lot of old online Linux games still have very tiny communities. Only problem is that the people still playing have spent the last 15 years gitting gud, putting them at a godly level of skill.

>> No.4663474

>>4663464
If you aren't new to the games it generally only takes a few hours to get back into the groove of speedy arena shooters. Worth sticking around and playing with those 15-year players, especially since they're generally really nice people and just want to keep people around.
