There's nothing inherently degenerate about posting on 4chan, especially a small board like /vr/. If you use it to seek out quality discussions it's just a fun way to broad your horizons and talk with people that similar interests. You can do that while playing video games, working a job, going to school, having a social life and enjoying other hobbies. But, this is a far cry from following high scores. There is not one, count: one, single person that actually cares about this kind of shit that has an active social life and healthy lifestyle. Personally, I think caring about sports teams and meaningless statistics is just as retarded.

Sarcasm aside, I've found that not having Facebook is a great way to see who your real friends are. People that actually care about you will have no trouble shooting you a text, messaging you on skype, calling you, etc. Facebook "friends" are 99% douchebags that you couldn't care less about and only remain in contact with out of convenience or necessity.
