So... i want to make my own high quality S-Video cable for Snes, Gamecube and N64 since ive bought two of those cables on Ebay and both have that checkered pattern so they are garbage.

I got a few OEM cables i could mod, and also i found a nice S-Video cable that came with one of my old videocards.

So, i would need to open the multiout conenctor, desolder the yellow cable, then solder all 4 cables on the S-Video cable to the pins inside the connetor and seal it back.

Question is... anyone knows the pinout of the connector? S-Video has 2 grounds, Luma and Chroma, so its a total of 4 wires but i dont know where to solder.

Found this pic on the internetz, but no explanation about which pins are used for S-Video.

good, so i should use pins 7 and 8 but theres a problem...

I just opened up the connector and the sockets are empty, theres only 5 pins on it.

Yellow
Red
White
2 grounds

I can reuse the pin from Yellow but im still missing one, i guess i can solder both S-Video grounds together to one ground from one of the audio channels.

Any idea on where to get one extra pin? on this pic >>4658439
theres an extra green cable thats not on mine.

original OEM s video cables are from japan, dont purchase anything that's not from there, thats why the cables you have bought are garbage!

Don't desolder composite, just solder luma and chroma to the pins 7 and 8 and ground to pins 5 and 6.

I've been thinking about doing this sort of thing for a while now. thanks for the photo.
I assume you need to hack together multiple cords to get all the pins necessary. S-video has 4 pins. RGB has what, 8 total conductors? so then two cords would be enough. The plugs will be the wrong colors if they're left on

>modding the OEM component cables trying to get the A/V connector for an s-video cable
>doing soldering work inside the SNES
>instead of just taking the A/V connector off of one of the shit s-video cables, since it already HAS THE RIGHT PINS
OP, what in the flying fuck are you doing? Put the soldering iron down NOW. Rethink your plan. Take the red and white plugs and the A/V connector from the shit cable, re-wire with properly shielded wires and your good S-video cable.

Some of those consoles need resistors and caps, some don't.

Nintendo are bastards.

Are you sure the OEM connector even has the pins for S-Video? Nintendo usually skimps and only includes those which are absolutely necessary for the signal type being carried.

it only has 5 working pins, the rest arr just empty sockets so i need to reuse the composite yellow pin and use it for either chroma or luma, but still im missing one pin... that is unless i can just solder all grounds to a single ground pin so it would look like this

red and white pins for audio no need to change anything.

2 grounds that go from each audio channel to separate ground pins, so if i solder these 2 audio grounds i can salvage one pin for luma

then i would need to solder both grounds for luma and chroma to the same audio ground pin and in theory it will work.

Do you guys think soldering every ground together will cause interference or video quality issues?

sorry to derail but does anyone know if this would work with a gamecube to an acer monitor? it's scart to hdmi (xb252q)

says it supports PAL

I recently order some cables for my gamecube. On ebay some guy from Poland is selling a home made one. I think the s-video cable looks thick enough. I won't get mine for another 2 or 3 weeks, but I think an $18 gamble is better than paying $50/90 for used and dirty oem/monster (or $10 for chinkshit.)

thefoo.83 by any chance?

If it's anything like the top spec Saturn cable I bought recently, you won't be disappointed.

It most likely would (unless it outputs at some bizarre frequency that your monitor doesn't like) but it will also be fucking garbage. Massive lag and smudgy upscaling with terrible blur on anything fast-moving.

The Framemeister and OSSC are the only choice for upscaling retro consoles to HD displays.

Technically no but it does perform an essentially analogous function chap.
