What's the cheapest and the most expensive you ever paid on a single retro game, /vr/?

I paid 50 cents for a loose copy of Takeshi no Chousenjou, which is an appropriate price I guess; and $200 on a gold Famicom Punch-out.

>> No.462232

I got Dragon Quest 4 for famicom for free. Bought River City Ransom's japanese version (Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari) for around $30

I never really buy expensive or rare retro stuff

>> No.462242

>>462232
What a coincidence, I bought the latter game just last week.

>> No.462250

Shaq Fu for a dime and Super Starfox Weekend for $400

Shaq Fu wasn't worth it especially considering I walk into a tree branch 30 seconds after buying it

$0.50 to $1 - how much I paid (each) for 250+ Atari 2600 carts I bought in the mid-to-late 90's from various thrift stores

$50 - 9/10 CIB Atari 2600 Crazy Climber from eBay in 2004

>> No.462285

Free for Shaq-Fu, Mortal Kombat (SNES), Resident Evil 2 (N64), Super Smash Bros, Ogre Battle 64, Zelda.

Though the last two I'd give back if the guy asked. Feels good picking up stuff people no longer want.

Most: Snatcher for 200 bucks.

too bad you can't play that because it requires the Famicom's microphone

Oh, and it's a tie at $115 for two separate times where I bought a Master System with a bunch of games, and a Dreamcast with 2 controllers, 4 VMUs, Shenmue and RE Code Veronica, and an assload of burned games

>> No.462324

>>462285
Shit, I didn't even know Snatcher was this expensive, just how rare is it?
Better save for the Saturn/Pc Engine versions instead.

>>462307
Actually, you can press the A button instead of using the mic. It's the same thing.

I used to regularly spend $50 on SFC carts from Yahoo JP. I would never spend more than that only anything, especially now. I bought all the MegaTen games (once a guy accidentally shipped me TWO boxed copies of SMT1, hah), Umihara Kawase SFC and Shun on PS1, Moon PS1, some obscure PS1 rpgs and artbooks, all for <$50.

I used to find tons of shit for cheap back in the day. Boxed copy of Phantasy Star 2 for $5 at a pawn shop. Tengen Tetris for maybe $3 at a flea market. I got a plastic bag with maybe 30 2600 carts for $5 at a Goodwill.

>> No.462337

Some one gave me several Neo Geo AES carts. So zero dollars for Crossed Swords and a bunch of other gifted retro games is the lowest price.

The least I payed? I don't know I just bought Donkey Kong on the Gameboy for $.99 cents. That might be the least.

Most I payed was $90 shipped for a complete copy of Snatcher a few years ago. I regret nothing.

It isn't that rare (though its not exactly common either), its inflated like Earthbound, because its by Kojima and everyone wants his old game now that Metal Gear Solid is so popular. Go on Ebay and you'll see like a dozen listings for 300-400 bucks.

Some people are under the impression that "DIDN'T SELL VERY WELL = RARE." Well, alright. More than some.

It was really a nice port with some particularly hilarious voice acting. It's just a shame that it was the only English language version of the game...and it was on the Sega CD.

There's no other system it could have been on. There's no way Konami would have ported it to MS-DOS.

Untrue; they had computer ports of several Konami games including Castlevania, Blades of Steel, and TMNT.

Yes, though I'm not sure if it's complete. Personally I'd love to play a translated version of the PC-Engine one. I think it was PC-Engine.

I'd also kill for a translation of the original Policenauts for the PC-98. DAT DITHERING SON UNF

for the time that voice acting was fucking stellar. Hell there are games from the early ps2 days with WAY worse voice acting.

I didn't say it was hilariously bad. In fact, the voice acting is one of the reasons why it's my favorite version of the game. When I meant hilarious, I really meant parts of the game that were actually intended to be funny.

Also...what the fuck did I just listen to? It's not just badly acted but badly recorded too.

Got used Ducktales 2 for 15 Pesos (a single dollar) 5 years ago.

Got Panic Restaurant for 150 Pesos (11 dollars).

>> No.462790

Least? maybe 50 cents each for a number of games.

Most, maybe $15-$20 for I don't know what. I'm usually cheap with my purchases, If it pay more than $5 then it's got to be something I really want or something I think is really obscure/unique.

I'm assuming this is for games that are "old" relative to the time purchased (vs, say, the NeoGeo games I bought when they were released.)

>> No.462803

Cheapest retro game: I got like 10-15 SNES games for a grand total of $3 at a thrift store. A good chunk of it was sports, but it had some gems in the lot:
>Aladdin
>Killer Instinct
>X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse
>Super Mario World
>Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
>Street Fighter II Turbo

Which made the lot more than worth it.

Most expensive? I don't usually blow a lot of money on rare or expensive games, but I once bought a boxed Fire N Ice for NES for about $50-55 odd, which is actually cheaper than eBay value last time I checked. As far as I remember, I never payed more for a single used NES game.

>> No.462838

>>462753
Ok my bad for assuming you meant hilariously bad. I really enjoy the voice acting in Snatcher and think it's the best of that era, that I've heard at least.

You just heard some of the awful voice acting in Robot Alchemic Drive. Lovely game if not a bit repetitive by the end and with some of the worst acting you'll ever hear.

>> No.462845

>>462712
I believe the Sega CD version had an extended intro and ending that the Japanese versions didn't have.

>> No.462852

cheapest: Itoi Shigesato no Bass Tsuri No. 1 Kettei Ban! (N64) paid 1 yen. (plus shipping, fees and stuff from yahoo auctions, but still I won the auction for exactly 1 yen)

most expensive: probably Bangai-O for N64, but I didn't ay that much for it, around $60 or $70 I think (it's a rare game), or Mother 3 deluxe box but that's not retro, and comes with a GBmicro, and paid $100 for it, so I consider that a bargain.

>> No.462876

Voice acting in video games was still sort of a novel thing. Snatcher's holds up surprisingly well in 2013.

Some others I forgot about:
>NBA Jam (sold it since I already have it, made my money back selling this alone)
>Top Gear 2
>Scooby-Doo Mystery
>Home Alone 2

The sports games were NFL Football, Super Play Action Football, and Super Bases Loaded.

Do the math, that's 13 games or $3, averaging out to 21 cents a game. Still one of the best finds I've ever made.

The least I've paid is obviously NOTHING. The most I've paid for a single game in one shot was probably $95 for Super Bomberman with Multitap when it first came out.

Oh, you mean recently? Hmm... I think I paid like $20 for Mega Man 4 on a whim. I normally don't pay more than $10 for a game unless it's a HOLY SHIT level game.

>mfw I found Crazy Climber at some garage sale for $1

It was loose and the label is sort of fading away, but still...

The guy probably didn't know what he had. I didn't know it was rare, either. It was just a "hey look an Atari game I've never heard about" thing.

Same with Quadrun, except I got that factory sealed for like $12, but since I got that when I was a teen, and in standard retard-teen fashion I didn't care about the box/manual and tried to open the cartridge, I no longer have the manual or the box. And the label has a hole where the screw goes. If only I knew back then how coveted that game is...
