City is actually smaller than III, with nothing new added other than bikes. Should've been mission pack DLC for III.

San Andreas on other hand is too big, and with nothing to do with all that terrain. It should've included Multiplayer by default.

god no. the current controls put the player on the same level as the npcs, which is a good thing. the player is supposed to be vulnerable.

doesn't make it an interesting world to explore.

vice city had lots of useless shit that didn't manage to immerse you into the game world. for the music, it felt like they just took a "best of the 80's" cd and bought the licenses for the music that was as famous and at the same time as cheap as possible. it's also weird that a game set in the 80's featured no or next to no italo disco or old school house music. instead they went all in with meme pop music. you know, the kinda stuff someone who didn't experience the 80's assumes that the 80's were all about. it's basically vaporwave before actual vaporwave. and ironically, the game attracted a younger audience than any GTA before it.

>> No.4650917

I should give GTA2 another spin. I don't think I ever finished the game, or even got very far without cheats, completely ignored the missions most of the time. I just spent majority of the time hauling vehicles to the crusher or whatever to get free items and get the army after me.

>>4649794
>the player is supposed to be vulnerable
Well I mean if we're talking about a remake (not a remaster), you would change how the enemy behaves to address that. The gunplay would have to be faster paced, but I could see twin sticks work on a GTA spiritual successor.

But I know what you mean though, I have to go back and replay, maybe the original style can still work fine.

/vr/ gta was always a PC series first hand, the console versions were just shitty ports.

for the 3d gtas, it was the opposite.

It only goes as far as to download Hamachi in case someone hasn't forwarded his ports.

no I mean, there were instructions where you had to downgrade the game, patch it with some shit, edit registry key, grant all rights, unblock some ports or so. Or at least so I remember, trying to find it now.

I love the setting in GTA2 so fucking much. I love how they managed to create an urban dystopia while still avoiding all 90's memes (i.e. "cyberpunk"). the post modern themes (hedonism at all costs, antimodernist reactions in the form of religious terrorism, etc) make it all the more believable.

the city isn't quite civilised enough topass as cyberpunk. the "low life" part of the high tech/low life dialectic is too dominant. yes, there's futuristic shit everywhere, but it's mostly just a matter of design: the cars have a futuristic design, but they don't really perform any different than the current day cars do. outside of a few decent looking areas (the village, stromberg and a few more), everything is dirty and run down. it's worlds apart from the shiny, hypergentrified skyscraper cities in cyberpunk settings.

there's also the colour scheme. cyberpunk favours heavily saturated colours, but the colours in GTA2 have a pretty low saturation. cyberpunk generally borrows its aesthetics from neo-noir, but GTA2 seems to be more influenced by 80's comic mags.
