It looks good for what it is, but they did really butcher the atmosphere. Everything is a lot more colorful and cartoonish whereas OoT was actually rather muted and bleak looking at times. Also they made adult Link look like a fucking faggot. Still, it's one of the better remasters that exists.

HD remakes can look good only if they are just using the same assets, but in higher resolution. The MGS HD collection for example. But note that is a collection of PS2 games. PS2 games often have higher resolution textures than the PS2 can actually display, which you can see when emulating. With an N64 game, you can't just render the environment in Unreal, slap pre-fab textures on it, and have it not look godawful. With higher resolution, you have to actually add more detail. Its why so many modern 2d games look like garbage, they have the same amount of detail as a 256x256 resolution game, but 10 times the resolution.

Unity is a powerful engine, but it's bloated, and I can do things more efficiently by trimming things back for the needs of each game

I don't mind the water temple changes, it turned THAT dungeon into one of my favorite with just two tiny changes. The brighter color scheme can be kind of hit or miss (the Dead Hand and Ganon fights especially suffer from it) and young Link looks like a fag but overall it's a pretty good remake and my personal way to play these days. Shame about the MM remake though.

Regardless, Downwell was GameMaker and don't know much about Talos Principle but since it's Croteam it was probably Unreal-based.
