I just wanted to give you guys some comparison images and my overall thoughts in this thread.

It's really pretty incredible we live in an age where we can get an ergonomic N64 controller for 20 dollars. But that time is here. And this controller has basically no issues whatsoever from what I can tell so far.

Ultimately, I think the octagonal gate was a mistake, because it's not the same size and angle/shape as the one on the original N64 controller, it appears to be limiting movement just ever so slightly in certain games. I noticed in the boss fight with Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time, it was harder to line myself up perfectly facing him to reflect his attacks because the forward part of the gate wanted to keep me locked in a specific angle that wasn't totally on par with the original N64's.

I could just be retarded though.

>> No.4623006

>>4623000
You're probably just retarded, because in the version on Gamecube there's no issue, and it has the same gate.

I feel like even though the overall shape and size seems to match the Switch Pro Controller, the Retrofighters n64 controller is just a BIT too small in the hands. This is mostly because a lot of prime real estate on the back of the controller is taken up by the expansion port for Memory Cards/Rumble Paks and your fingers are pretty constrained when wrapped around the thing to touch the shoulder buttons and triggers, etc.

It worked on the original because you didn't grip it the same way and it was curved around your pistol grip. On this controller, the expansion port means you can only hold the controller with your pointer fingers tightly pointed downward.

It's 29.99 on the site, but all the kickstarter backers are getting coupons for 10 dollars off extra controllers.

How is the build quality? Is the thing solidly constructed, or is it creaking and groaning all over the place.

No creaks or groans.
Plastic feels much cheaper than the original N64's plastic feels, but ultimately, I don't think it's any thinner or anything.

Build quality is pretty close to perfect. I think the D-Pad may be questionable as well as the little latch that releases memory cards/rumble paks.

I'm literally a kickstarter backer just telling people whether or not this is worth it.

I wouldn't shill a 20 dollar controller for a dead console.

>D-Pad may be questionable as well as the little latch that releases memory cards/rumble paks

Both not that big of a deal to me, since the D pad mostly goes unused, and I'll likely just stick a memory card in it, and leave it. Just ordered mine last week, so it sounds like I'll have to wait until May to get it when the second batch ships.

>> No.4623136

I'll chime in.
Got mine yesterday.

The controller is REALLY FUCKING CRAMPED BECAUSE THEY PUT THE PORT FOR THE RUMBLE PAK LITERALLY RIGHT ON THE BACK OF THE CONTROLLER

SO YOUR FINGERS ARE STUCK IN A LOOP

This is the exact same mistake that Sega made with the Dreamcast, they too the Saturn 3D Pad and fucked it up by adding the oversized VMU port right dab in the middle.

IIRC I think $30 is the normal price. People who got the kickstarter are apparently getting a coupon code for each controller they backed for getting it at the KS price ($20).
