What is the best retro game that was basically free advertising for a company?

In the Pokemon games you at least are in world of pokemon. In this one, we are in that bizarre Yu-Gi-Oh universe where everyone just wants to buy cards. This game is still fun enough with its game mechanics, but every NPC just wants you to starts buying cards.

Well literally all Pokémon games are basically free advertising (aside from the first since they started the franchise). The slogan is 'Gotta Catch 'Em All' after all. Even the older games are heavily geared towards trading which requires you to buy a link cable and convince a friend to buy an extra cart.

True! But you don't need to trade or play with friends, game is totally playable/doable on its own and has some sort of narrative to the world. Not that I'm playing the game for story (lolololol) but it kept its scenarios unique enough from each other as your progress.

In this game, it's just go to a poke gym, and everyone won't shut up about cards regardless of the theme. Someone even says "Gotta Catch Em All" with a little TM symbol next to it. Yikes.

Also, Pokemon STARTED as a trading card game, it only became an anime and a videogame series after.

By the time this game came out pokemon cards were already banned in every school. It wasn't "free advertising" the same way Super Star Wars wasn't either

Sorry, I got my dates mixed up. They came out the same year but the videogames did come out first by a few months.
