ITT: we post hidden gems of the 16 bit era.

What are some of your favorite "hidden" gems of the 16 bit era?

What's great about them?

I love Uncharted Waters 2. The huge amount of content is awesome with Pirating/Exploring/Trading. I never see it mentioned but I think everyone should give it a shot.

Friend had an SNES classic with a fuckton of games on it and ran into this one. Really fun. Can't believe they actually let you run over people in it lol.

>> No.4600664

this is a hard one because there is a thread like this every week, but i will try to list some games I like that i rarely see talked about.
SNES - Ball Bullet Gun
Battle Tycoon - Flash Hyders SFX
FEDA - Emblem of Justice
Gunple
Nage Libre
SEGA - Bad Omen
Bio Hazard Battle
Elemental Master
Red Zone
Sub Terrania

There literally are none at this point. If you want to find obscure games at this point you're going to have to look at obscure consoles and PCs.

There's still quite a few SNES and Genesis games that nobody really talks about that are worth playing.

The issue is that people were calling Axelay and Gradius III "obscure games" in another thread that's still up.

I love this game. Used to rent a pirate copy at a local newsstand, only copy I'd ever find. Then it closed and I've only played it again on emulators, never found another copy ever again. I live in Hu3 Hu3 BR

Axelay to the layman maybe, MAYBE could be considered obscure. But Gradius 3? Nigga, Gradius is a granddaddy shooter. I think most shmups on SNES are likely 'obscure' to the average person that played the system when they were younger. Things like Space Megaforce, Aero Fighters, and even Axelay didn't necessarily sell well or have great marketing when new, compared to their counterparts in the other genres.

Bullshit. I've had a Genesis since I was a kid and 30 years later I'm still finding games I've never heard of.

Plus, one man's classic is another's hidden gem.

As I said, those console shooters are in an awkward spot.
The average player doesn't care about them since... they don't like shoot 'em ups.
However, shoot 'em up fans understandably get into arcade games and thus don't give these much attention, they are easier and simpler affairs.
I happen to still be able to enjoy these made for console ones, but I think this is why these seem obscure, even if they aren't. People just aren't interested in them even if they know they exist.

It doesn't have a save system nor password system, but other than these faults this game is an excellent platformer. Criminally overlooked. Super hard too. Check it out.

It's a sequel to the original gameboy game called, Fortified Zone.

Seconding this. It really feels like a playable version of those schlocky late eighties/early 90s anime OVAs with all the body horror and violent mysticism. Would be the epitome of a hidden gem if it wasn't for the awful slowdown at some points.
