Just got a Flash card for my little brother's ds.

What retro games should I get him? (Though open to ds titles as well)

Pic related, that`s the face I want my brother to have when he gets home from school.

You can't emulate on a DS.

It's a technical fact, you can't emulate on a DS.

Every one of those is unacceptably buggy and slow.
If you want to struggle with them, feel free, but I'd just buy the kid a PSP instead.

A copy of every nes rom runs you about 220 MB, and the nesDS emulator is quite good.

The SNES emulation on DS is not at all good because of the way the chips work. The SNES 2d chip is, believe it or not, better than the DS one. Running the whole thing in software mode isn't an option either since it taxes the DS's memory too much, so huge layering issues plague most games. Super Mario World, however, runs because its such a popular rom benchmark.

Gameboy emulation is flawless. Get some pokeyman on that thing. If he's into romhacks, get a copy of the Pokemon Brown IPS patch and patch a (U) rom copy of Pokemon Red.

Genesis emulation is largely flawless because of the simpler graphics and sound chipsets. It's also helped by the fact that JenesisDS is quite well-coded. Just a note for you, JenesisDS cannot run the Gunstar Heroes rom, however, the multigame pack that Gunstar heroes is ON works fine for some reason. It's the pack with Altered Beast and Flicky on it. The Genesis 6-pack has a lot of good games on it too, so if you don't have time to sit on a rom site downloading shit one at a time it can save you some headaches.
DS Homebrew is quite robust. There's a very good 2d portal game called Still Alive that is very fun. There's also a flawless Doom port for DS called DSDoom. MIDI of course doesn't work, but the sound is all there and the controls are surprisingly tight since you don't have to worry about aiming up and down.

Hope that helps.

Forgot about GBA: Don't bother without a slot2 card. GBA emulation in slot 1 doesn't work on DS, period.

Back when I had one, I remember loading an NES emulator onto my M3 and it ran just fine.

Hell, I also remember playing Quake 2 on that monster...
