Why does /vr/ freak out about the existence of the GBC so much? This happens on a consistent basis.

It's a Gameboy with 16 colors. That's not a bad thing.

There's nothing wrong with the hardware. The GBC just didn't live up to its potential thanks to loads of shovelware and licensed garbage over saturating its library.

What few colorized titles are worth owning were mostly rehases with shoehorned content that added nothing of value to the game, like Zelda DX, Mario Bros. DX, Pocket Bomberman now in Technicolor(tm), and those two Zelda Oracles games that were essentially glorified ROM hacks of Link's Awakening.

Also bear in mind that a lot of games though to be Game Boy Color titles are actually dual-mode carts that run in both original GB hardware and GBC, such as Pokemon Gold and Silver, and Dragon Warrior I&II. Actual GBC exclusives came in transparent cartridges.

They're all objectively superior. They're just not impressively superior.

The GBC is just a new version of the Gameboy. Yes it has a technical feature that is objectively a step up above the GB that isn't necessarily used much, that matters absolutely zero.

Did you bitch this much about different colored N64s? Your complaint is absolutely meaningless, people bought the color to play any Gameboy game, not GBC games specifically.

The display on the GBC looked a lot better and was much less bulky. Pretty much every kid my age that had a GB switched to GBC as soon as it game out. The exclusives however left much to be desired and really did feel like a stopgap between the GB and the GBA

GBC is also one of the only retro consoles that can be had for next to nothing on ebay which is awsome. I rebought one for 20CAD a couple of years ago after my childhood one had been long lost

wut? I have no interest in investing in a new platform for the novelty of being able to play classic GB games with half-baked palette options. Besides, the Pocket had some distinct advantages over the Color, like a smaller form factor and a larger screen. I still own one to this day and have passed up opportunities to acquire a GBC on the second-hand market.

Hey anon, if you still play modern games, just so you know, Nintendo is probably going to release a Switch with more built in storage eventually. The GBC remake of Aladdin was definitely a step up.
