I've ignored the Saturn for too long, what are some must-play games for it?

>> No.4584091

Panzer Dragoon Saga
the other PDs
Tomb Raider
Princess Crown
Enemy Zero
Policenauts (has an English patch)
Virtua Fighter (I prefer the polygonal untextured version to Remix) and VFII
Christmas Nights (Valentine's Day is coming up!)
Guardian Heroes
Burning Rangers

Not the guy you're responding to, but the /v/ recommended games wiki has charts like this on most major consoles - e.g this picture is on the PS1 page.

this list is stupid, why 2 daytona usa and 2 nights in essentials when you could have sega rally, deep fear, burning rangers, shining the holy ark or even bulk slash up there?
please change this

It’s affordable if you understand Japanese. :^)

As are 95% of western Saturn titles that cost $100+

>>4584073

I think you’d need to give some parameters before you request recommendations. After all, it’s a lot easier to recommend something like Shinrei Jusatsushi Torumaru if you’re planning on just burning all your games versus playing on an actual disk.

Is $40 a good price for a PAL Saturn (i'm in aus) with a broken disc drive? Disc spins then stops and doesn't read the game.

>>4584325
Mm, ePSXe doesn't even work on Windows 10 anymore. Any attempt to run it gives a black screen entirely. I have better results with PCSX-Reloaded nowadays, haven't tried mednafen or retroarch or what have you.

The Dreamcast version is better. The arcade version is the best.

>> No.4585412

There are two saturn ports, with the first being arcade accurate but awful, the Championship circuit version on the saturn may as well be a different game, it controls much different, but it has much more content and is a great game in its own right. The dreamcast game is more accurate but has awful controls, so either option isn't really going to give you the arcade experience.

Not retro, but you can get the Xbox 360 port of the game through the xbox one, it's by far the best port of the game ever made and completely arcade accurate.

Just because a game is technically impressive doesn't make it a must-have. Like Sonic 3D Blast is technically impressive for Genesis but it's definitely not a must-have

oh, would you look at that, someone parading their personal opinions like an objective fact.

if a game was technically a miracle, and im a fan of the series, then why shouldn't i own it?

also, that pic you replied to is just a list of good titles for the saturn. the OP is asking for must-haves. someone just gave a broad list for him to pick and choose from, no one said quake saturn is a must have. but its something to appreciate, for previously stated means. like yeah they Mayans weren't NASA scientists, but i still marvel at their knowledge of the cosmos for their time and technology. quake wasnt the pc port. but it was damn close.

I have a fairly high tolerance for low framerates. Perfect Dark didn't bother me too much. But Quake for Saturn was beyond my limit. It's gotta be somewhere around 10 FPS most of the time. That's how it feels.

I mean, it's a great achievement that it even runs at all considering how gimp 3D is on Saturn, but your tech demos gotta be fun.

The later Saturn editions like Circuit Edition are good with full arcade soundtracks, but they're not arcade perfect while being the best attempt until the 360/PS3 iterations.

>> No.4586856

The Outrun port on Saturn is pretty great. Optional 60fps mode, 3D pad support and redbook remixes of the music(original music available as well) makes it the best way to play that game unless you have the whole Outrun cabinet.

Avoid the Sega Ages collection and get the standalone Japanese release unless you don't care for the redbook audio, the extra tracks were removed on the collection to make space for the other arcade ports.

>> No.4587542

>>4586285

Start studying Japanese then, since NTSC-U and PAL Saturn games are extremely expensive if you're not turning around and reselling games after playing them.

Cannonball is the best way to play OutRun, though.
