Can this game fuck off for a moment with bottomless pits, spikes and lava and stupid amount of platforming? Why did nobody at Nintendo realise that Yoshi doesn't fit in a game with the same level design philosophy as Mario? Yoshi clearly belongs in a more action-oriented game like Contra/Megaman so why am I still jumping around like a faggot? Just let me shoot stuff and go crazy, fuck.
the final boss was cool as shit tho

Bcause Yoshi has the momentum of a goddamn cannonball, it's like I'm controlling a jumping bulldozer. Precision jumping just doesn't feel good, not in the same way as SMW at least. Also, I dunno maybe the emulator is to blame but input lag on his floating ability is insane

Honestly you sound like you're pretty shit at the game, but you're not entirely wrong. Yoshi is better suited to a game about action and exploration.

Yeah, that's pretty much the game frankly. Don't expect too much sympathy though, the spergs around here literally worship this game and will throat fuck you for criticizing it (let alone bringing up Yoshi's Story, which causes them to have a full blown autistic breakdown). that doesn't make any sense to me. The float is one of the biggest safety nets if not the biggest saftey net in a platformer and it allows you to play like a maniac. You definitely didn't get some of the red coins in the auto scrollers if you were playing in the most delicate, dull way

Not every platformer must be a jumping obstacle couse you know. Consider Sonic games. They have very few bottomless pits and the spikes don't instagib your character. Still there, just enough to keep the game tense but generally, in a Sonic game you can be confident about every jump and go as fast as you can, and this is what the game is about basically. Level design complements character design.

Come on what? It's the better game. It's a pure, unadulterated platformer with amazing graphics and music, flawless controls, relaxing gameplay, levels with branching paths and lots of replyability, some cool secrets, memorable enemies and bosses, it's a great game. Literally the only legitimate criticisms I ever hear of this game boil down to "it's too easy" or "i hate little hearts and flowers", as if a game actually being fun once in awhile is a problem or that YI isn't just as sickeningly cute.

I usually defend Story because a lot of people attack it, but I don't think it's better than Island.
If you want a legitimate criticism, I think sniffing isn't all that fun. It's a cool feature, but if you want to find all the melons you have to randomly sniff through all the level, it gets tedious. Also, the game's story mode should have included at least twice the levels it had. Having to unlock levels is what makes people think the game is "too short".
Story is indeed hated more than it deserves, way more. But attacking Island and saying Story is a better game you won't really convince people.

Also, the game's story mode should have included at least twice the levels it had. Having to unlock levels is what makes people think the game is "too short".
I'll agree sniffing could have been implemented better, but to be fair, there is no inherent reward in finding every melon or anything, so sniffing is just a fun addition for finding additional secrets after you've already thoroughly explored a level many times. Moreover, most people think it's short not because you have to unlock other levels, but because they think the 6 first levels you play are the entire game. Some are aware of the extra levels no doubt, but don't seem to care about them. What's bizarre to me is that the levels are generally huge and filled with different environments and enemies and obstacles, so there's actually a ton to explore. Once you've played a level in Yoshi's Island, that's it, you've seen it all. But when you play a level in Story, you can come back years later and still find a secret route or area you hadn't before.

If you like Island more, that's fine, I don't, we're all entitled to our opinions. What bothers me more than anything is that people act like it isn't just an inferior game to YI, but a bad game on its own merits, which it isn't by any reasonable definition.
