I've been playing super mario world probably since I was about 8. I'm nearly 28 now. I only just found out about this top secret area. The fuck man...am I the only one who didn't know about this?

As soon as I arrived at donutland I compulsively flew everywhere.

The only level I didn't get until my second playthru was that soda lake thing, with the torpedo teds.

the thing about Top Secret Area is that it comes before a lot of players really get into the groove of exploring thoroughly, and that if you fly up anywhere but the first screen or so you just hit a ceiling with nothing but empty space above it-- which could tip you off, but not until you have other ghost houses to compare it to to find out it's not normal, and it's ordinarily the first ghost house you visit
in short, it's hidden in plain sight, and that's why it's such an OP map with a special name that a lot of people just didn't find

>> No.4567047

>>4565832
>am I the only one who didn't know about this?
Yes. Every ghost house has 2 exits. The game/manual even tells you this.

>> No.4567071

I love how they handled the Torpedo Ted level. By having a completely exclusive enemy in that level combined with showing an enemy cast roll at the end of the game, you are effectively teased into playing the game more even after clearing it because you're all like "Torpedo Ted? Where the hell was that enemy?"

I can't be the only one who was puzzled and intrigued by seeing Ted in the credits the first time i cleared the game.

There are a few SMW romhacks that are less annoying than the average Kaizo ones but I'm not sure if you're going to like the level design. Some of them like Second Reality Project and Odyssey were interesting to me but I don't think they would top the original SMW for you.

Don't be ashamed OP, it's just something where you are out of the ordinary. Most people back in the day eagerly looked through all the levels and liked flying arounda nd eventually would find this. I loved just being in the game even though I'd play through all of it and doing tricks (eg trying to get through levels without touching the ground as much as possible) and looking for spots I haven't been yet. Then somebody would visit and see the secret and it spread onwards. You rarely play this game as a kid with other kids?

FYI the other ghosthouse on that world also has secret star exit if you haven't found it.
...How many % of completion you got on this game anyway? Maybe there are a few other things you have missed.

Some things you maybe don't know:
>You can carry an item while riding yoshi if you drop the item in the right spot (good with keys)
>You can carry two items at once if you line them up in the right spot
>Throwing items and then climbing while catching let's you carry stuff upwards
>Special road is alot easier if you get the blue yoshi in the underwater world, then jump and glide with him through the level where you should use the 'P' floaty thing. At some point you can snatch a flying koopa and fly through the level.
>In the ghost ship near the end don't take the green exit ball right away, instead jump into the water and sink afap benath it, there are 1-ups that try to sudoku but you can grab'em
>You can fly infinite long if you practise
>While belly diving you can kill boos, even the green floating slimes, and more; this works with sliding down stairs as well
>If you manage to get a star in the torpedo ted level (eg action replay etc) and touch a ted then the game doesn't know what to do with the hits and gives you a bunch of 1-ups
>on top of of the mountain (your pic), the level after the pipe, grab the grey 'P' at the spikeys and run back when the turtles start. Press the buttons and collect the grey coins for massive 3-ups.

>> No.4567798

Yeah as a child I was able to deduce that since 1 level had 2 exits, which led to secrets, then most of them probably have that.

>> No.4567831

to be fair, the special spots like ghost houses don't really show it. But as far as I remember each ghost house has two exits, so there's that.

>> No.4568916

Owned Kirby's Adventure as a kid, played it to 100% more than a few times, but it wasn't until about two years ago that I found out about the hidden UFO you can get on the first level. The door blends in REALLY well.

There's a cutscene in FF6 between Setzer and Cid during the WoB in Albrook. I never saw it before since you really have no reason to go back that way at that point in the game. Saw it mentioned somewhere, and checked it out. "What you want to do is head for the crashed airship after the banquet scene in Vector instead of heading for Albrook. It’s quite a hike and you only have two party members for the journey, but you’re rewarded with a brief scene where Cid is marveling at Setzer’s airship, but insists he can make it go faster if Setzer would remove the casino."

I legit didn't know that the color of the level on the map indicated the number exits it has until I saw a youtube video where someone mentioned it. I just never thought about it. Though I still found most exits on my own as a kid anyway.

I replayed Pokemon Blue a couple of weeks ago and I finally realized why you hometown was called Pallet Town. As a kid, it always stuck out to me as not fitting in with the naming scheme of the other towns since I though it was referring to a shipping pallet. It's supposed to refer to the color pallet, hence why all the other towns are named after colors. What a dumbass.
