Second half aside, can we agree this is the perfect videogame? It´s not just a joy to play, but a joy to look at

The lack of actual platforming element makes it lose some points to me. I prefer Classicvanias, they're a joy to look at, and also a real joy to play through.
Also, not denying the impressive artwork on SOTN, it really is gorgeous, but it took some sprites from older games like Rondo and Castlevania IV. Just a testament at how good spritework on the older games were.

A poorly balanced Metroid-wannabe flat hallway simulator that pretends to be a Castlevania game. No we cannot agree it's perfect, maybe 5/10 at best if only for the aesthetics and OST.

Nothing matches the animation of Alucard sprite tho, it´s so damn satisfying to move him around

Its not a castlevania game.
Pic related is much better.

Very far from perfect even when ignoring the inverted difficulty curve.

fuck off old fart

sotn was the evolution of the series and the fact it caught on while classic died is proof you fags are wrong

Pretty much every 2D Metroid style Castlevania improved on SotN so...

If you're not baiting, then you need to go back to /v/

No, that would be Super Metroid.

Are there any Metroid-likes where the game doesn't become piss easy when you're 50% through them due to all the upgrades you get?

Yes.

Great game. When it came out it was really a breath of fresh air to an aging franchise. Still magnificent till this day. If you say this game is 5/10 or some other detritus you're fucking gay.

>> No.4572447

Super Castlevania IV > Symphony of the Night. It's a fucking crime that Konami took steps backwards when it came to controls from that point

>> No.4572498

No, SOTN isn't perfect. It's good, maybe even great, but not perfect.

My major gripe is that you find tons of gear and most of it is crap, this invalidating the point of finding it. There are no special weapons or armors that work any better than the one you found 3 hours ago, and the hidden magic spells are trash.

Exploration is fun and all, but ultimately disappointing when the rewards are so lackluster.

Also if you have to say "second half aside, " then no, it's not perfect.

Not even close. Classic castlevania is a far better castlevania, classic Metroid is better game of this kind.

People are too hard on the second half. I usually drop games that try to pass off replaying it again but with some twist like the levels are backwards as new content however SotN is one of the few that actually changed things up enough to make it still be fresh. The only real downside is that a large chunk uses only one song.

No. No we cannot. I love Symphony of the Night though.

>> No.4574823

I'll never love SOTN!

>> No.4575021

The one fatal flaw is that it's wayyyy too easy. Alucard is just OP as hell, and the final boss falls in about ten seconds. Its successors on the GBA are superior in this regard, although Symphony of the Night still stands above them all on aesthetic alone; the game just looks and sounds amazing, even today.

I always considered the lack of difficulty almost a feature. It's a visual storytelling experience with an incredible OST.

>> No.4575386

>>4572032

I love the game. Great graphics, gameplay, and music. Wonderful package.

Its only flaw, which is a big one, is that Alucard eventually becomes overpowered. I suppose you could handicap him with weak weapons, but he still gets very strong late in the game and makes most of the stuff at the end too easy.
