Several arcade-perfect ports of fighting games and shooters, the best versions of some PS1 survival horror games (in terms of graphics and content), cool racing games, a handful of action-adventures that haven't been ported elsewhere (like Shenmue and D2), and the original Phantasy Star Online, which can still be played online on private servers through the console.

However if you are at all interested in the arcade ports, fighters and shooters, you need to invest in the Dreamcast arcade pad because the standard controller is awful.

I would not recommend burning your own games when you don't have to since CD-Rs put a lot more wear on the disc drive than proper discs, and badly burned games are a relatively fast way to make your Dreamcast into a glorified clock.

Idk maybe it's just nostalgia but I just spent >$100 on a dc and shenmue only to play that so hopefully it's more. I just have some kinda feel about it because during one of the last weekends I spent with the girl I might've loved she was staying at her neighbor's house while they were on vacation and she invited me over and we rummaged through shit until we found a dc with only shenmue (but no memory card) so we played it for like 6 hours straight and laughed a lot and fucked each other

However, if you do not like Sega system styled games, like arcade, racers, shooting, fighting, light-gun, and strange quirky stuff, it may not be for you. I like it a lot as it was really fun in its day, as I loved the Saturn.

Secondly, the problem with all those ports after the DC went under is that they were spread out across like 12 different platforms. Why buy all those consoles to play minimally improved versions at best when you can play all of them on a single Dreamcast?

Plus it still has exclusives that never got ported, like Record of Lodoss War, Frame Gride, Blue Stinger, Maken X, etc

The only game I can say really improved when it was ported was PSO thanks to episode 2 being added

I wouldn't jump to conclusions. Talk about CRTs and consoles is very regular but there are also loads of threads about emulators, fpga systems, virtual console and clones. Even if the latter group gets hounded by the former it's not like anyone has taken numbers.

Then there are factors like the system in question you have to take into account. All the retropie kids won't play anything further than SNES on it, but might have a real N64 or dreamcast.

CRTs are getting very scarce around here and it just takes one minor incident for one of my consoles to stop working. This just isn't a sustainable hobby in the long term.

I used to have a Dreamcast with the gun controller and House of the Dead 2. It was such a blast the gun was super accurate and nice and heavy. My friends and I spent hours happily blasting away zombies. I also had a copy of Sega Bass Fishing and this weird fishing reel controller. It worked really good and also provided hours of entertainment. I miss my Dreamcast so bad it is a shame it wasn't more successful of a console.
