Never played Landstalker, but loved Light Crusader back in the day. Treasure weirdness at its best.

Wonder Boy in Monster World. But between those two, Light Crusader for sure.

Landstalker is by far the best. Light crusader is average.

Too short & too easy. Monster World IV was better in every conceivable way.

I really like how they really tried for a very "western fantasy" look for Light Crusader instead of the usual whimsical bandanna-and-gem-encrusted-armor brand of animeish fantasy. It makes the game stand out even though it still feels pretty japanese overall anyway

Its one of the shortest wonderboy games, it was fun but lacked depth compared to dragons trap or IV. Also none of the wonderboy/monster world series are really action RPG's at all, they have upgradable gear but thats really the only RPG element.

Light Crusader is far more dungeon-focused and feels a lot like those isometric games from the 8 bit era in its structure. Landstalker is fucking huge and far more rpglike, with storyline, town-to-town gameplay, and more of a spatial aspect to its puzzles and more emphasis on jumping.

Depends what kind of rpg you like - delving through sprawling endless dungeon, or fun anime-inspired trip around a continent.

Tldr just play Crusader of Centy.

>> No.4565693

I not a big fan of either. Beyond Oasis is more fun,

This is the correct answer. This was way better than either of OPs games.

However, if we have to choose between those two only, then Landstalker. Light Crusader is really not very good.

Wow, Knuckle is actually right for once. This game is fucking amazing, an open world sandbox action RPG that is basically the best representation of the tabletop game you could get on a Genesis. This is the correct answer.

Landstalker has depth perception issues in the platforming due to no shadows but unlike Light Crusader at least I can actually reliably hit enemies.

Light Crusader is a hitbox nightmare. Any time I've tried playing it it's an awful experience.

LC is really more a puzzle dungeob game than an action RPG. I think it's a large part of the shit it gets.

I like Landstalker so much. Still mad that PSP remake never come to be. They showed 3D maps and rearranged music, I wonder why no one in the industry never wanted to follow this history to know what was going on.
I wish we could get an update/mod/remaster kinda like what happened with Sonic 3D Blast DX recently. Sure there may be a lot of programming barriers but it would be so good if this game had shadows, better controls and some other minor fixes.

>> No.4567410

Landstalker is especially good if you're into the Shining Force games because the look and sound of it is very reminiscent of them.

the guy who lead the climax dev team creating/making landstalker is dead. There wont ever be a remake from the original creator.

If anything, IV is the shorter game. A tutorial segment, 4 dungeons, a castle variant and a boss rush... wut. It was linear as fuck too. Didn't even have a seaside level and a separate protagonist and lots of weapon variation were scrapped because of cartridge costs, leaving just the basic Zelda 2 moveset and situational Pepe actions. With that art, it could have been so much more given proper funding.

Dragon's Trap and III had a bigger scope for their world in comparison, more moves, more metroidvania... They lacked IV polish and graphics but they more than made up for it in content, secrets and exploration (pygmy rooms, hidden doors, later abilities unlocking stuff way early in the game if you bother looking, etc) and IV had none of that.

I imagined the original makers wouldn't be around anymore, the Sonic case was more of an example of what an upgraded but faithful version should be. I don't understand a thing about rom hacking or programming to know what is possible but I know that there's a lot of passionate hackers out there that do wonders to some games so I just hope someday someone gives this one some love.

Not even close.
WB1 is archaic and bare bones.
The Arcade shooter is pretty at times but sucks balls.
MW1 (Land) is a joyless slog with that timer and maze level in the end.
Some of the ports are a practical joke. SG-1001 WB is more torture device than game.
