Remember when Interplay announced they were going to sell all their IPs over a year ago? Nothing seems to have happened, so what gives? Maybe nobody wanted their shit?

https://globenewswire.com/news-release/2016/09/07/870242/10165014/en/Interplay-Announces-Sale-of-Significant-IP-Portfolio-Wedbush-Securities-as-Strategic-Advisor.html

I have a lot of love for Interplay games in the 90's but let's go through their IPs:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Interplay_games

Who gives a shit about any of these? Descent was a great game at the time but I don't think anyone would care about a new one. Also no one cares about Earthworm Jim anymore.

>> No.4560775

>>4560767
That's just it. Haha poor Interplay, they died the moment they lost Fallout.

Descent lives on however

It was a desperate attempt by a worthless company to drum up attention and hopefully cash. Being retards who can't into math enough to keep a business solvent they somehow thought their IP was worth many times more than their entire company is and turned down every offer I'm aware of. Hopefully those who made offers will be able to pick up what they want at the fire sale when the company goes tits up.

If these guys had any brains they'd be publishing games for indies, making fanservicey mobile stuff, and porting old stuff to Nintendo Switch

I mean shit SNK does it all the time

>> No.4561135

>>4561126
I'd rather have them die than go that route.

>> No.4561138

I dont know their status as a company but they have some lucrative IPs.
I would love to see new games on many of those listed.

Doesn't seem likely, Brian Fargo went and founded InXile. Herve Caen is the current president of Interplay and people around the net say he's a moron

I could see a random company coming and scooping up Earthworm Jim so they can lazily port him one last time, and that's just being cautiously optimistic.

so that leaves MDK, which is pretty much darker Earthworm Jim

I wish for a new MDK game, but more similar to the first game than whatever Bioware had shat out with MDK2

>>4561126
Well yes, but they tried that and failed because they don't have any brains. And they have less money than they have brains.

>>4561138
>I dont know their status as a company or what "lucrative" means
FTFY. Just because you'd like to see new games based on many of those games listed doesn't change financial facts. It also doesn't change the fact that Interplay doesn't have the right to make new games in many cases.

Let's be realistic, EWJ could succeed without him.

I'm willing to bet Armikrog being a failure probably did more damage to Doug's name than any number of his bad opinions. Once you take the public's money in exchange for a game, they hate you.

>> No.4561219

>>4561207
He's right though, Interplay likely has no staff to take on anything, and the remaining properties they have are of no interest to many people.

They aren't even in the public consciousness today so they often resort to copyright trolling and petty legal affairs just to even the score

All of these have room for expansion or actually worthwhile remakes. A Clayfighter game where you lose mass and abilities (steeper skill) would be amazing today and actually doable unlike then.

Boogerman got a kickstarter for it's anniversary and it failed miserably.
And after Armikrog, doubt we'll see something like clayfighter/mates (hell clayfighter was supposed to came back twice, and it never happened).
I really feel sorry for Jim though.

>> No.4561853

I gotta be honest, I don't need Boogerman, claymates or even Earthworm Jim in my life. Their IP's aren't strong enough to rise from the ashes, you could just as well make a reboot of commander keen.

...On another note: Why did they never make an Earthworm Jim - 3D Worms crossover? The wacky comedy would have fit and you could have used the suit as a weapon
