I hate how the early PS1 games all disappeared from the current "best PS1 games" lists.

Games like Toshinden, Destruction Derby... were system sellers in 1995, and that's for a reason. They're still a lot of fun to me, and the later "mature" games aren't a proper replacement for them, just like Ridge Racer Type 4 can't replace the pure thrill of the first Ridge Racer.

Another early PS1 game that fell into complete oblivion is the faux 3D platformer Pandemonium (faux 3D although it's really 3D graphically, but the characters move on a straight line). It's still very playable and decent to look at, so give it a try.

I love the ps1 and I am on a quest to play games I have missed before moving to ps2 games

Recently played for the first time
>Jumping Flash 1,2
Addictive and simple. Video game feels.
>Klonoa
Great gameplay, style and graphics, retarded story
>Tai Fu Way of the tiger
It was ok
>Nightmare Creatures
Got really boring fast, but I finish it
>Resident Evil Survivor
It wasn't as bad as I expected it to be.
>Gex Enter The Gecko
Fun, shit camera
>Rayman 1
Started ok. Dropped at the later levels, it was getting hard as fuck and I can't be bothered spending so much time if I'm not having fun
>Tomba 1
This game is cozy as fuck.
>Parasite Eve 1,
Why hadn't I played this before? Amazing., Totally recommended.
>Tomb Raider 1
Finally put the time to actually finish it.I had played the demo as a child. Really liked it. Would play again.

Currently playing TR2, it's alright, I'm at pic related area

Evil Zone/Eretzvaju. It's an anime fighter made by YUKES. The gameplay itself is very barebones (only attack and block buttons), but the way the story mode is played like a TV show (each character has a different style of TV show), and the charisma of the characters won me over.
I still play it from time to time. I remember I started playing this before I even had any internet, back in 2000, and I've managed to discover most of the secrets on my own (like, you need almost 60 wins to unlock the characters' third color).

PoyPoy 2:
Players compete in tournaments, first choosing a character and equipping magic gloves. Players then fight in arenas by using their glove powers, as well as throwing various items scattered about the stages. Many levels have unique features; the moon level for instance is low gravity.
Rakugaki Showtime:
Players take the role of sprites made to look like roughly colored drawings done in crayon, who duke it out for ultimate supremacy in the arena. This is accomplished predominantly with the use of several types of projectiles, although melee and countering systems are also present.
Panzer Bandit:
Brawler very similar to Guardian Heroes.
Zanac x Zanac:
Top down, 2D, vertically scrolling space shooter. One of the major additions is being able to select from 3 different ships upon starting the game. Each ship has slightly different movement/shooting properties and each have slightly different sub-weapon implementation.
Deception III:
You control the character in a 3D environment in which you place traps to kill your persecutors (who have weapons). It's a real-time game with elements of strategy and role-playing, which allows you to use a system of timing and skill of activating traps through the rooms of a medieval castle as the opponents try to kill you. As you activate the traps, you can link them to activate each other, in way to increase the number of combos.
Tear Ring Saga:
RPG designed by Shouzou Kaga, creator of the Fire Emblem series.
Motor Toon Grand Prix:
Cartoon style racing game, with characters and vehicles representing mostly stereotypical comic book and video game archetypes. The game, both in visual style and gameplay-wise, clearly draws a lot of inspiration from cart racing classics like the popular Mario Kart series.
Adventure of Little Ralph:
2D platformer. Ralph is armed with swords and various magic powers and also has the assistance of a small furry companion. The game's levels are interconnected.

Dude I'm fluent in Italian, despite not being one, "Libero Grande" doesn't mean anything, it's not a term, it's typical "it sounds cool in Japanese so this is gonna be the title" line of thought

You're fluent in Italian, but not in soccer-language, apparently.

Libero is the name of a position in soccer, meaning that the player isn't fixed to a single role and can move freely on the field. "Libero grande" means great libero, and that's fitting since you're playing as a libero.

For sure, between Core and Crystal Dynamics they had some real money making properties. To have survived as a publisher for this long is impressive.

I'm not counting on Crystal Dynamics surviving much longer since they've been put in the same position Core was in before they died: "Make Tomb Raider games until one of them flops, then we'll shut your studio down."

One of my earliest memories is of him playing the Sega Saturn port of "The Horde", not PlayStation but figured I'd mention it as an interesting take on strategy games.

It's pointless today since we have arcade emulation, but I had a great time with Super Pang Collection back then. Especially Pang 3.

The shocking thing is how I completely forgot the existence of this game until a few days ago, when I launched randomly Pang 3 on FB Alpha.

I have a weakness for many of the old fashion Sound Novels and early 3D model games and this little beauty combines both. You play as a doctor who is treating a young girl after her failed suicide attempt, and she reveals that she is possessed by 4 spirits of ancient Egyptian gods. Most of the game is told in a Sound Novel format with investigative sections taking place in Maria’s house which are similar to games like D or Mansion of the Hidden Souls. As with most Sound Novels of the time it followed a structured path for the first playthrough, with variations based on your choices, and with repeated plays would open up more story paths until you get the true ending. Apparently there is a sequal but I haven’t gotten around to playing it yet but now that I’ve talked about this it’s rekindled my interest.

Yes. If you’re into Sound Novels and can read Japanese this is another good one. You play as a real estate agent who is guiding potential customers to a resort in the country side but it turns out to be a haunted mansion. Similar to Maria not only depending on the choices you make but also how many times you play the game you can get different endings, some ending leading to a dead end even if you’ve played the game through 2 or 3 times. I normally don’t like the moe style artwork but it’s still a well written game even if most of the characters are Japanese stereotypes.

The N64 is quality over quantity. Almost every N64 game you come across is at least a 7/10, while PSX has a ton of 5/10's but hardly any really good games. Also N64 had real 3D games where most PSX games were limited to 8 directions and no true analog range sensitivity. No offense to Sonyfags, but the PSX was the weakest of that generation, by far.

N64 has what? At most 30 good games, most of which your average gamer couldn't even name. At least 20 of which were ported psx games.
Saturn has even less, unless you're a hyper weerb autistic and euphoric fedora wearing basement dweller. Then it's amazing...
PlayStation has easily 50 or more 7or 8 out of 10 games, and another 50 or so 9's. Not to mention 99% of the generation defining games are either exclusives to psx, or got released for it first.

Lastly, who gives a fuck about true analogue support in 3 decent games and another 80 pieces of shit no one cares about? And n64 also has the limitation of carts, which means smaller games, worse sound quality, blurry textures and higher price tags in spite of it all.

N64 is the contrarian choice and best. Saturn at least has lots of enjoyable games to certain people. N64 is a handful of exclusives and then second rate ports.
Even nintendo saw the writing on the wall and ditched the stupid thing after only like 4 years on the market. Opting to have no market presence at all until the gcn came out a few years later. And it was honestly their best choice at that point.

These are facts. Not liking the opinions of old doesn't make them wrong. PlayStation outsold the Saturn, n64 and Dreamcast LPcombined for a reason.

My contribution to the thread: Destruction Derby RAW. I don't think it's as appreciated as the first two due to the change of developer from Psygnosis to Studio 33 and the way the cars' changed from hyperspeed streamlined stockcars to very heavy and bulky normal cars, but the track designs are probably the best in the franchise (only challenged by DD2).

Distributing some courtesy (You)s to games I poured a ton of hours in as a lad. This also seems like the thread to ask about a game on the PS1 I can't name. It was a bigger action game where you controlled various army vehicles in an attempt to fight off aliens. IIRC the alien vehicles had a white aesthetic. You had to destroy enemy vehicles and bases to win the round. People always seem to think I mean Colony Wars, but it was set on the ground and you could switch your controlled vehicle on the fly, à la Battlefield's hotswapping mechanic. Pic unrelated

Blog post time again.
>Crisis Beat (Soft Machine):
3D bashy times. Heavily emphasizes combos and air juggles, and the use of background objects to attack your opponents
>Blazing Dragons (Illusions gaming company):
2D adventure/puzzle conceptualized by Terry Jones. Mostly straight inventory-based point-and-click, but there are several arcade sequences.
>Rogue Trip (Singletrac):
Vehicle combat. Play a post-apocalyptic cab driver competing to take a tourist to "photo-op" locations. Earn money for weapon upgrades and repairs.
>Pepsiman (Kid):
Run along on rails stages collecting Pepsi cans, while trying your best to avoid injury or public humiliation.
>The Unholy War (Toys for Bob):
Has 2 modes. Mayhem mode takes place in a 3D arena in a similar fashion to something like Power Stone, allowing for full free movement of the character. Strategy mode takes place on a hexagonal grid and was a simple turn-based affair where players could buy, move, and attack units.
>Overblood 2 (Riverhill Soft)
Combines Survival, exploration, platforming, puzzle solving, real-time combat, and even a little racing.
>King's Field (The actual first one) (From Software)
First-person, action-adventure RPG.
>Trap Gunner (Racdym)
Strategy game that involves two players in an arena who must outsmart each other by setting various traps and having the enemy get caught in them.
>Incredible Crisis (Polygon Magic):
A mini-game collection. There is a heavy narrative element to the game, which tells the story of a prototypical Japanese family's particularly insane and outlandish day. The story is told from each family member's point of view sequentially so that as you see each character's day unfold, you learn more about the events in the other family members' day.
>No One Can Stop Mr. Domino (Artdink):
Advance through stages by clearing all obstacles and tiles on a given stage. The stages are set up like board games. Once you start moving you can't stop.

I can't decide if I love or hate this game. It requires such an insane amount of grinding in order to obtain the right cards necessary to beat it that it should be considered a form of torture. The way the campaign is set out really limits the possibilities of your deck and by the end you have to rely in the Meteor B. Dragon to have a small chance of winning. It is also incredibly hard to obtain this card. The end requires you to go throught five bosses without saving and they straight out play Ultimate Blue Eyes White Dragon and wipe out my monsters with Rageki... It's insane but the music, the graphics are all amazing and compell me to insist on it. I want to beat it legit, with no exploitation or cheating... It might take me a year though.

Played this game countless times with my best bud as a kid. Shit like hitting vending machines, having Cola come out and drinking to get health won me over big time as a impressionable kid. Or just shooting someone with a gun, then when you were out of ammo, throwing the gun at someone.
Diverse characters, deep move set, branching paths. I would argue it is the quintessential example of a 2D beat-em-up turned 3D.

I remember being mad hype for the sequel. Only to have it be some single player only bullshit.

>You can only ever legitimately learn two passwords per file, and they only work once

It could be popular because it is a great game. It could also be popular because of Name brand recognition. If a hidden Gem isn't made by a popular company then it wont get recognized as well as a game made by a well known game company. it would get over-looked. also, the game company that made the game is a small game company than it can't afford to advertise as a larger game company. it's all about marketing.

If something has name brand recognition it tends to get handed to capable, well known developers. When a game is shitty despite the brand it gets forgotten and tends to sell badly so again you're missing my point. A better known company is better known because it has more talented programmers, artists, writers, and other creators. Games with little advertising will still sell well if they're actually good. Five Nights at Freddy's began as a failed kickstarter that made no money but look how popular that turned out because of its quality.

I beat this legit when I was a kid, looking back now I realize there was never any strategy involved, I just kept repeating duels over and over until the AI allowed me to beat them. And honestly, once you get to the part where you have to beat those elemental sages getting lucky is all you can do, you have to hope that you get the right cards to get something like a Twin Headed Thunder Dragon on the field and hope the AI doesn't just play a 3000+ monster and wipe you out instantly. Even after countless hours of grinding, when I had a bunch of Meteor B. Dragons, a bunch other powerful monster and great magic/buff cards the final 2-3 duels in the game could just outright decide they don't want me to win that day and there is absolutely nothing you can do.

The AI literally cheats on that level and changes the hand cards on the fly to those being able to counter yours. You literally have to wait until the RNG lands on a number that doesn't make it use them.

What are some good dungeon crawlers for PS1? I heard Japs went crazy for Wizardry, so I'm interested to see their rendition of it.

my dude I loved the bad endings and how depressing they where. this game was like an awesome scifi movie that was never made. I actually found the alien part neat since it was so minor and more like an extra

spoiler all endings in coming https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eG1kShdxjW8

My problem with this game is that it's not very tactical. Customization is extremely limited and difficulty it easy.

>>4544847
Me too

>>4546297
It's ok. I find that I enjoy making progression but dislike playing the game. That's a balance that turns me off a little

>>4558191
Decent multiplayer experience. Enemies are hard in a cheap way. Dodging things on a 3d plane doesn't feel like a gratifying challenge.

>>4558872
Exceptional game. Immersive if you give it your time and energy and I mean that sincerely. Really great game

Every fucking TV sold in PAL countries since at least the early 90s have supported 60hz. It was a bit more so and so if they supported the NTSC color space, but that doesn't really matter since you would likely just use RGB anyway.

Thanks a lot.
