> no GB/GBC thread

everyone come on in, we're having a thread for the coziest /vr/ handheld. post favorite games, recent pickups, hidden gems, hot takes, and cool artwork.

question of the day: full color or B&W, if you get to choose (ie. a DX-series game)?

>> No.4548575

>>4548551

The wave animations are not in the same state from the gc, to the gbc side. I'm going to have to ask you to redo/re-submit.

>> No.4548604

Inb4 some TASer says the B&W version with slowdown is superior because nostalgia and better exploitable glitches.

>> No.4548663

i'll take a game that's properly colorized over a non-colorized one anyday
the ones that aren't properly colorized and just have some generic palette specified and are "gbc-compatible" look like garbage though, i'd rather just play them in black and white

Color every every time. Makes the games look so much better. Even original GB games look better on it.

>> No.4548686

I guess this is as good a place as any to ask.

If I wanted to use the old GB's greenish yellow colors on an emulator, what color codes are the best match for it?

All I had for the GB/C was pokemon silver, the GB secret of mana (fucking loved this shit) and wario 2.
What are some good games? I already beat the shit out of SML on emulators when I was younger (was and still a linux autist. gnuboy was the only thing that ran well on my shitbox)

That horrible interlaced frame buffer grab. Bless you, Gamespot.

I still trip out that we had reviews of those very 8-bit looking graphics going into 2001. Cool games, tho!

it's a GBC RPG where you recruit monsters from random encounters into your party and raise them and shit like pokemon

You get to breed monsters, and the result is often times how you'd imagine the two monsters to be if they were merged.

The breeding system is way better than in Pokemon.

Isn't this game actually really good?

>> No.4549683

I disagree, some games look better in black and white. Many dual GB/GBC games look like they were made in black and white and later just colored in.

It's like when they started coloring those black and white movies, while at first sight it looks ok, after a while it starts to look odd. Wario Land 2, Donkey Kong Land 3(JP) are good examples but not the only ones, pretty much most black cartridge games look like this.

GBC only games don't have this problem.

>>4549662
I always wanted it but never got it, I did have goldeneye though. It was made by 90s Rare so it should be decent at the very least.

Jimmy White's Cueball is a good billiards game, besides the kicking music, the gameplay is solid and the featureset is choice. Has four different pool rulesets, helpers to make shots better (if you want), digitized speech, and a zoom function. Pick up a copy or emulate it if you want a fun billiards game.

no, not really. general rule of thumb about MM1-4 on GB is that 1 is 1's levels with 2's mechanics, 2 is 2's levels with 3's mechanics (sliding, etc).

They're like remix games.

V and Xtreme 1/2, however, are original games.

1, 3, 4, and 5 were done by the same developer (same guys who did X3 on snes). 2 was done by a different developer and has different physics and really grating instrumentation for the music.

1 is fine, it's just a lot shorter than the others. 2 is playable if you can get past the music.

The only one that is a port of the SNES version is DKLand 2, Land 1 and 3 are original games influenced by their respective Country titles.
