What was the point then? Why didn't Nintendo just put DSP-1 into every single SNES console? This seems even more illogical than something like Super Mario 64 having the N64 Expansion Pak included with every copy.

It wasn't until 6th gen when prices stopped being so arbitrary and actually standardized. I was too young at the time to notice how bullshit some 16 bit games' prices points were, but it's easy to understand now why I pretty much only ever got second hand games

Not him, but I'd consider a tech demo something more along the lines of 'fantasmo' or whatever the fuck for the ps2 where it was only notable for being a launch title with pretty graphics but shitty gameplay where you manage fireworks displays
