My dad got me into doom too.
He left D2, DN3D, Q1, and a shitload of shareware he downloaded on my old windows 95 when he bought a Windows 98.
As a result I have a lot of obscure games and shit that my dad absolutely adored in the 90s.

Personally I've recently been going to these threads because I didn't have Doom when I was younger. I mostly played on consoles, but my first FPS was Duke3D. I have to say, Duke3D and Doom do things differently. I find that I am exploring the environment and checking out the tricky things the mappers did (I really like the level in which you are in a half submerged city). I played through Doom 1 and 2 about a year ago but I didn't have the option to play with the mouse at the time so I went with an easier difficulty. Then a month or two ago I decided to replay Doom 1 and 2 on Ultra Violence because I got something with horizontal mouse support and I really enjoyed it. Sometimes the levels I ended up just looking around trying to progress, but it didn't happen too often and it was a lot of going around interesting areas and having battles there with how the area was structured along with enemy composition and placement giving more challenges.

I really like the simplicity of Doom and having tons of fun with it.

For now, it has some custom tunes (Contra, Super C, Contra Force and even some music from Contra 4; all MIDI), the custom barrel explosions and some extra sound effects (item pickup and the aforementioned barrel explosion)

Remember, I did this just for fun; and not trying to get all of my custom crap in the official thing. However, if you feel like taking some stuff I made, I don't have any problem with that, feel free to pick it up

Was episode 4 always this difficult in Doom? I don't remember having that much trouble without Brutal Doom, first two levels aside, but with Brutal Doom on I was always at like 40 health with 0 shields up until the final level. Either 5 or 6 nearly took an hour to complete because I was at 20 HP most of the time with no suits.

I like this! Very playable, good amounts of ammo and there was enough health to cover occasional dumb mistakes. Lots of opporunities to rip and tear with the berserk pack. Looked pretty nice ase well. Though there was some weird graphical shit over here and the crusher trap had a hall of mirrors on the far side of the door.

Why should I use GZDoom for singleplayer instead of Zandronum? I recently discovered Brutal Doom which I'm having a lot of fun with but when I'm using the latest SVN build the flare effect flickers, works fine in Zandronum however.
