how many quarters (including Tokens for places like Chuck E Cheese) did you spend in the arcades over the years?
how many were worth it?

When I was a kid dad yelled every night about bills so I thought we were poor growing up. I never asked for money or videogames or videogame systems so I just kind of grew up without. Finding out now that most kids had a bunch of systems and games makes me feel kind of like I wasted my childhood because they have countless fond memories attached to them. As a result I sucked at games. At pizza parties after soccer games or at birthdays I only ever attempted arcade games with one quarter, decided I sucked or it was too hard and moved on. It wasn't until I was 10ish that I started going to the boys & girls club where my mom worked, and they had a bunch of arcade machines. I started bugging her for quarters sometimes. To this day the only arcade game I ever beat on an actual arcade cabinet was Metal Slug 3, and it was because a friend and I planned ahead and saved up our quarters. Took nearly $20 because of my lack of skill. Was a pretty epic experience.

fucking loved pizza drop for some reason. I liked the non games, pizza drop, rockn bowl, and tugboat just because they were different.

>average 10 bucks a month
>went to arcades near home, shopping mall and resorts for at least 15 years starting in the mid 80's
Jesus, probably close to 2 grand like gramps, not including things like putt putt, RC, slot cars, laser tag and go karts.

>still can't beat them with that many lives
feels bad

i tended to gravitate toward the machines that gave out tickets you could redeem for prizes. pixie sticks, bouncy balls, those styrofoam airplanes you built, that shit was awesome. machines like mortal kombat and street fighter didnt give tickets so it felt like a waste of money

years later though my roommate and i beat time crisis 4 at the arcade and that probably took $50 easy

yeah they were great, you could take multiple propellers, put them on the wings and make one super plane. eventually though the dog would grab it, wreck it, and all of your efforts of using both hammers on the whack a mole machine would be lost

you have a vagina, don't you?

Probably not all that much. Arcade era was when I was a kid, I just didn't have loads of cash to spend on tokens.

I spent 5 dollars on sessions of Golden Axe Revenge of Death Adder and D&D Tower of Doom, each, once though. Both were totally worth it, as they were the only times I ever saw those cabinets.

Altogether probably nothing over even 60 marks, or roughly converted about 10 bucks. They were a very rare treat for me growing up

>>4525630
I would consistently throw these into a fucking tree. I think a crow actually took one.

>>4527756
Good thinking, but you could also hold the prizes in your hands or pockets!

hilarious, i was a kid, i wanted toys and candy, not to have to play some older kids in mortal kombat 2 and have them whip me like a rented mule with mileena

No clue. Once I got a drivers license at 15 I would drive to a pool hall two towns over and drop 20 to 30 bucks playing video games at least once a week.
