Is Kega Fusion still the best choice for Genesis and 32X?

It is for my linux laptop

When I emulate on a computer it's what I use. There may be better emulators now, but KEGA is solid, and a cohesive, usable application. I beat Snatcher with KEGA.

Exodus
but you have to have good PC

>> No.4518776

Kega is best for 32x. The only other competitor is PicoDrive which is fairly buggy.

Genesis Plus GX is better than Kega for MegaCD, but whether you'd notice a bug depends on the games you'd want to play.

The best two choices for base Genesis are Genesis Plus GX and Blast 'em. Exodus is hype but incomplete and practically abandoned.

That's all accuracy-wise though. If you want particular features like a debugger or something then the choices become a bit different.

>>4518651
I personally recommend Genesis Plus GX, it's about as if not even more accurate, you can use it through retroarch or blitzhawk.

>> No.4518783

Other than Pier Solar is there any game Fusion can't run? And about the "better" emulators, what do they do better? If it is sound emulation I'm interested.

>Exodus is hype but incomplete and practically abandoned
This is very wrong especially if you interest goes beyond just playing video games.
And also should be noted that Blast Em is the only emulator as of date that can handle Overdrive 2 (although its done hacky I suspect.)

>>4518783
Also, I'm strictly talking about Genesis games, not CD or 32x

How is it wrong? The VDP and other components were in need of a complete rewrite, there a bunch of other semi-serious bugs that have turned up since the last grand release and the author has a habit of being unreachable for years at a time.

Pier Solar is a modern game with a unique method of bank switching.

I remember there being a specific game that either has or doesn't have SRAM, but the ROM indicates otherwise and crashes because of it. Might have begun with "R".

Most of the time when people talk about accuracy it's in reference to extremely weird edge cases. Overdrive and other tech demos tend to specifically abuse things like this and on that note:

>>4518785
IIRC Overdrive2 only works in specific hardware revisions. If some random person tries it on their Genny there is a significant chance it's not going to work either.

Shadow Dancer MD is fucking brilliant. Carry on.

>> No.4518865

>>4518816
The emulator itself offers selection for all hardware capabilities.
I was surprised to find the emulator has VDP debug registers toggles for obscure features like SDBG.
To me this is great and even if it needs a rewrite I can only say that this will be the way for complete mega drive emulation.

For 32x yes kega is still the best but the RA genesis plus core is way better for standard games as it has correct audio emulation (no other megadrive emulator does).

>> No.4519601

>>4518672

You also can't beat the television static it displays when you start it up.

>> No.4519885

I could only beat Shadow Dancer with shurikens turned off.

Those damn ninjas that block every shuriken shot made the later stages impossible and I couldn't rely upon the sword slash to hit them properly unless I had shurikens disabled. Its also pretty fun to run through the stages slashing and jump kicking everything.

Is Kega Fusion still the only Gen emulator that can emulate Yamaha soundchip without sounding like shit?

Try this:
Load Evander Holyfield or Slime World

With Kega Fusion:
Enable Audio Filtering and maybe another setting. Can't remember. Been years since I've played Gen roms.

Compare with any other Gen emulator. Every other emulator sounds like shit. It only sounds good on Kega Fusion

>>4519907
with filtering on it sounded identical to Genesis Plus GX to me
with filtering off it's very different, more trebly and also a lot more clear. i guess the filter is supposed to replicate what it would sound like coming from a TV instead of being raw audio? I"m not sure which one I like more. but filtering on sounds like any emulator to me

>> No.4520000

kega fusion has really good input lag. you can test it out yourself with the pause (emulator pause, not game pause) and frame increment.

for example, load up streets of rage 2

make sure your character is facing right, pause, hold left, frame+, frame+

Your character will start turn around on the second frame+. so that's like 1 frame of input required to go through.

That's like consistently the best (as in lowest) input lag among all the emulators I've tried. at least the ones that have a frame increment option.

>> No.4520001

>>4518651
Kega and Picodrive are the only emulators that I know of that support 32x but Genesis Plus GX is ahead of these emulators in terms of accuracy.

You'll find an occasional game that sounds completely wrong in Kega, and normal in Genesis Plus

What are some other games that will show how good a Mega Drive emulator is? I want to test how good Picodrive on PSP got with the latest updates.

>> No.4520449

>>4518651
Nope. It's still original hardware like it's always been.

>> No.4520452

>frame stepping

Uh...that's not what input lag is. If other emulators (which ones?) are reacting a frame later in that situation then they are just polling input at different times and possibly not polling it regularly or at all during frame step. Something like this can be as simple as a one line fix.

If you or someone else could, could you try BizHawk? It uses Genesis Plus GX and per frame input is a big deal in the TAS communities.

You can force disable it in the .ini config file.

It's a simple 0 to 1 switch, change it and save the file and you're good to go.
