I don't particularly care for them, personally. I always felt that the top-down camera perspective made it difficult to immerse yourself in the game world.

I liked GTA2 more than 3 desu.

Can't go back though. Too used to 3D.

GTA2 was one of the first games I ever played along with spiderman 1 on the ps1. I liked it a lot, was no good at it but I had fun driving around and the rampages or running over the elvis impersonators was fun

More the console version runs on a slightly different engine and the train took up what limited car slots there were. The hardware was underestimated.

Which GTA2 district is the best one, and why is it the residental district?
>cool looking city core, surrounded by suburbs and nature
>diverse, features skyscrapers, shanty towns (the redneck area) and gated communities (the zaibatsu area)
>lots of large scale architecture, i.e. the dam, the bridge that towers above the redneck area

Yes! I remeber even few years back, on rockstars website you could play a very good in-browser version of GTA1. Classic . Brings back many memories. and still fun game to play

I used to play GTA 2 on the PS1 all the time back in the day.
I never new how to save and didn't really play any of the missions so I would spend all the time running over people and killing them ^_^

I think they are far, far better than the GTA3 gen games.
It was amazing how fast you could drive. And bullets that instantly kill made it pretty intense and fun.

Did anyone ever fix that issue with the original PC games where the cutscenes slowed to a crawl as it dumped every frame as .TGA files?

I liked playing GTA2 on my gbc.
Not retro, but GTA Advance is pretty good if you like the top-down style.

I just listened to all the gta themes and I've gotta say GTA 2's theme is the best one. One commentator said the music doesn't fit GTA which doesn't even make sense

I remember not really having a good term for top-down perspective games and we would just refer to those games as "like GTA" or "GTA style". I think I remember a magazine even doing that. Good as it was 3 kind of fucked that

the controls are fine as they are, you just need to get good with them

I configure the controls like if they were for a racing game (example:I use a ps2 controller, and x to move forward and square to move backwards).

Back in the day running around in a city stealing cars was a new concept in gaming.
I remember when I was in 6th class or something, other classmates telling about this game where you can jump over cars, open it's door and throw people out of their car.

I remember GTA 2 mostly because the biggest gaming magazine in my country gave the game a 5/10 review that went "It's shit because it's not 3D". You know, back during the age of the Blocky Polygon. Played it myself, had a blast and would love to have another game that improved on it, like GTA2 improved on GTA1.

the worst reviews were mainly in the psx magazines, and that's kinda understandable considering how barebones the psx version is.

sadly, much of the gaming press seemed to collectively lose interest in GTA 2 as soon as they found out that it was to be set in the future. iirc they assumed that all pedestrians would be replaced by robots.

I seem to have a hard time gitting gud at GTA2. I especially find the missions where you need to do something with an emergency vehicle that only arrives at a very specific wanted level (i.e. swat vans) very hard. it's so easy to miss if your wanted level becomes too high, and at the same time, you need to kill some cops to defend yourself.
