What's your favorite of the retro Kirby games?

>> No.4506023

64 and Adventure

Hi, I wanted to get into these since I like the controls but I get bored with them easily since they are so easy. Is there a challenging Kirby game? Even if only just a bit challenging.
My experience: I beat the first one for Game Boy, thought it was too easy. Tried the NES one a bit and dropped it since it was more of the same: too easy. The other ones don't look much different either but I haven't even tried them so dunno.

Adventure and 64 are my favorite games.

Shout out to Super star, I like the idea of Super Star, it's kind of weird how we don't really see any more games of that type. The "fun pak" if you will, where it's a few smaller games in one.

I'd have loved to see something like Zelda, DK, or Mario take a swing at the "five smaler adventures and some mini games" style game like that.

It's not for you.

Almost every Kirby after 64 followed Super Star's gameplay.
If anything, I miss when Kirby just got one attack from absorbing enemies instead of the gorillion of moves he gets now from just one guy (and also adding some overpowered gimmick like the hyper nova or the robot).

Too bad, I wish there were games with Kirby's controls that posed some challenge.

Kirby Super Star is the only game out of the series I enjoy.

The other games feel off to me for some reason.

I'd say try Super Star's Great Cave Offensive, and then play Dyna Blade (which is very easy but fun) to unlock the Metaknight game, if you're enjoying the game by then then you'll want ot play it to the end.

It's just Master Hand with some sort of giant King DeDeDe beak and googly eyes.

Kirby games are designed to be beginner games for the most part. If you're looking for challenge in Kirby, you have to go for 100%. Try playing the original Kirby's Dream Land on hard mode.

Am I the only one who likes the borderline, if not sometimes completely, tonally incongruous "true" final bosses present in a handful of Kirby games? How you go from fighting a tree to fighting a demonic looking dude who screams when you kill him is pretty neat. And no, I'm not saying that Kirby final bosses are terrifying or anything, just that a final boss like Dedede in Dreamland seems a more natural fit for Kirby when compared to enemies like Dark Matter.

It's a contrast thing, it's more common in "kiddy" media than you think

It amused me as a kid to see Zero say damn in the X3 ending. I guess they figured that really young gamers wouldn't make it that far?

Superstar is the best Kirby game.

At the end of Megaman 7, Megaman wants to kill Wily at the end and says "Die, Wily" or something along those lines.

I've never played a Kirby game I didn't enjoy, honestly. Even the spin-offs like Dream Course are good. I'd say my favorite is definitely Super Star, but I like the Dark Matter trilogy a lot.

This is some localization stuff but I could be wrong.

Yeah, that part wasn't in the JP version.

True, the "die, Wily" line was added to the english version, in the original he just remains silent, but still he charges his buster and aims at Wily with the obvious intention to shoot his face.
Also, the japanese version has Bass (or rather, Forte) saying "kuso"

>> No.4507610

>>4507583
Kuso is just a general curse, it doesn't have any actual obscenity.

>> No.4507612

>>4507610
Yeah it's like "damn", still makes kind of a contrast in a "kid's game".

>> No.4507824

>>4507612
Not really. It's not a word that anyone's going to get upset over. Children say it all the time, and it's quite common in kids' media.

The concept of profanity is pretty different between Japanese and English. The words actually considered offensive in Japan are things like racial slurs, mocking disabled people, etc. No one gets particularly offended by generic expletives the way we do by words like "fuck" and "shit".

>> No.4507835

>>4507824
Fair enough, I still think Megaman pointing his charged buster in Wily's face was rather ruthless.
Then again, at that point Megaman was fed up with Wily fucking things up for the 7th time.

>> No.4507926

>>4507835
Just got to that part to see what is said in the JP version.

Megaman: You're not going to trick me again, Dr. Wily!

Wily: You're going to shoot? Shoot me? ME!? You're a robot, and I'm a human!

And that's when he stops charging his buster. I figured Wily would go on about the laws of robotics or whatever, but that was it.

>> No.4507934

>>4507926
He knows he doesn't need to. No matter how much he may want to, Mega Man can't kill him. It's literally impossible.
