mario 3 had a lot, i cant remember most but stuff like a bowser suit and p wing glitches were common

another was mortal kombat, that had so many rumors, most kids werent allowed to play it or own it so all they could do was watch it at the arcades or have a try at a friends house and then speculate which led to alot of rumors. which is sort of ironic since there arent many easter eggs in mortal kombat 1

Of course the mew under the truck secret was a huge one.

Being able to play as idle in ki (true cheat)

In my school kids said there was a way to play as peach in smw. I never heard that one anywhere else.

Fake mk fatalities

I remember something about twisted metal and sweet tooth, but i cant remember what it was anymore.

Bringing aeries back from the dead in ff7

Thats about all i can remember right now...

>> No.4501658

I mainly remember Pokemon rumors, around the time Yellow came out and everybody was playing. I honestly believed until my 20s that you could increase your chances of capturing a pokemon if you tapped B really fast as the pokeball twitched.
Also since most kids back then didn't have access to internet, there was some level of uncertainty about how many creatures really could be found. Meowth could not be found in Yellow (I only learned this many many years later on bulbapedia) but I remember rumors about finding a Rocket grump that would trade a Meowth for some other pokemon.
I remember a kid telling me he found the legendary bird from the anime (that would be ho-oh, that actually showed up in the first season of the anime) after capturing all the other legendaries. No one knew what that Pokemon was when we watched the anime, so while nobody really believed him, I did spend hours trying to find him in Yellow.
Something about entering a truck near S.S. Anne and warping to some place. Capturing Mewtwo and heading for Cinnabar Island to confront Mew. I dunno, shit like that.

Mew rumours. I spent so much time trying to get that fucking truck Mew. Internet was a new and precious commodity at the time, but I did have one friend whose house had internet. He didn't have a GB or Pokemon though, so we had to team up on this. I would phone my friend, who would then look shit up on the internet about the Mew (alongside missingo, item duping and such), save the pages, and then call me back and I would translate what the page said and describe what was actually happening in my game. We'd take notes, end the call, and I would start experimenting more long term on the game while he would go back online to look for info to either confirm or contradict what we'd learned. I'm sure they already existed, but we didn't know about web search sites, so all info was gleamed from random websites whose urls we basically just guessed. Put together some string of seemingly useful English words like "cheats", "trainer" and "game" and put either .net or .com on the end. We both got such a whooping for those phone bills.
Sorry for the blogging. I haven't thought about this retarded shit in years

>>4495983
>I do remember my friend trying to convince me that b.o.b. was the sequel to super metroid, boy was that dumb
I knew a kid like that. One time we saw a review/preview/whatever for Blood in a games mag and the headline was something like "Blood, Duke Nukem's darker brother" and almost immediately he started making up bullshit about how, yes, "Blood" was Duke Nukem's literal brother and that was his name and how there was a secret cutscene with them shaking hands and Duke calling "Blood" his brother.
Come to think of it I knew a few kids like that. I never understood that instinct to make up horseshit on the spot and just keep insisting it's real. What makes a kid like that? Parents not giving them attention? Child psychology is weird.
