So, /vr/, who was your guy? Billy Bob or Chucky Cheese?

I'm going to go with the bear. Showbiz was a darker more mysterious gaming experience and had yet to start descending into the ticket machine hell it is now. When it was still Showbiz, you had the whole band for Rock Afire.

I will give Chucky Cheese one thing. Around the time of the conversion they almost always had the SImpson game, xmen game or the TMNT arcade machines.

Yeah; they'd usually have them up in the hallways leading to the "theater" or in the "theater" (the place where you'd eat the pizza and watch the animatronics show, or the public domain cartoons or whatever they put on the movie screen).

But yeah, Showbiz was way superior to Chuck E Cheese when it came to arcade games, and it's sad that things turned out the way they did.

I've never really thought of a retro ShowBiz/Pizza Time Theatre thread as being suitable content for /vr/, but since this thread is in full swing, I'll have at it.

I guess I'll start off with the fact that the Rock-afire Explosion was cool beans. If you've never seen one of their shows, their style and quality will come as a total surprise. The first few years were kind of rough, but after that, it's all gold. If you feel like listening to a fair amount of them, I would recommend using this guide on the ultra-reliable documentation website: http://www.showbizpizza.com/review/rae/index.html

These are some of my favorite shows:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hx37dCMi29w
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcLSPWh5Jdg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckruDKOlGLI
And then we have the absolutely fantastic '87-'88 New Year's show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2879kqzq9PI
Just mind the awkward still image from Aaron Fechter's own stage in that last one.

"Finally"? We've had tons of '80s Rock-afire footage on the internet since at least the earliest years of YouTube. If you want a real revelation, just look at that professionally-recorded footage of Chuck E. Cheese's "portrait bots" that somebody uncovered in March of last year. We had literally never seen any footage of them whatsoever on the internet until that point, and even then, we still need at least some video of Crusty the Cat (in my image), who was only around for about a year before being replaced by Mr. Munch in 1978. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIBJPPoIG1k

Real shame that it's a screen recording with a cursor in the middle of the image, but cool footage nonetheless.

You can find multiple cursor-less versions on YouTube. That's just the one I happened to choose because I think it's usually the first one that comes up in the search results.

I live in CA and when I was a kid we went to the beach boardwalk arcade and all the mannequins and animatronics on the caveman ride gave me major Nightmare Fuel. I had to close my eyes out of fear or I might have pissed my pants. I actually have a phobia from this and still get creeped out by them no bully. Also Laughing Sal scared the shit out of me as a kid. The laughs haunt my memories.

are you sure about that? most of the footage on youtube is modern recordings from people's private bot sets.

I never had a problem with the animatronics. They were on the stage, they couldn't hurt me. But the guy in the suit? Fuck that. That towering, bug-eyed beast roams the premises freely in search of prey.

There is something about early Victorian era Americana that gives me a strange unnerving creepy feeling. That arcade musée mécanique that used to be at the Cliff House is full of early mechanical arcades and puppets. They are really cool but also give me a strange eerie feeling for some reason. Im also afraid of clowns. They trigger my paranoia hahaha.

My favorite was Showbiz, I got to go there once a year on my best friend's birthday. The band was fun, the pizza was good, the haunted house scared the fucking shit out of me and the video games were glorious.

I'm surprised we didn't see a revival interest in Showbiz after FNAF, it was based on Showbiz pretty much most of it not Chuck-e-cheese.

We got more of a renewed interest from that electric feel song.

It was almost entirely modeled after Chuck E. Cheese's, m80. The animatronics from the first game were clearly based on Cyberamics. The only similarities to ShowBiz I can think of are Foxy, who has his own stage like Rolfe DeWolfe, and Mangle having a hand-puppet like how Rolfe uses Earl.

I think there was a revival, but chucke cheese the company doesn't give a shit and the owner of rockafire probably doesn't have the capital to do much.

Seriously, they keep building more Dave and busters. And nostalgia is at an all time high right now. They could make some serious bank if they relaunched showbiz with an adult barcade like theme. Have some good beer. Good pizza. Put it in some key wealthy southern locations like Nashville or Gatlinburg. Maybe Orlando. Or atlanta.

Money, money, money.

The arcade is pretty cool but I have not seen it in a few years. They had alot of big driving and shooting cabs. And a retro section with tetris and starwars. They also have free concerts. The rides are too expensive. Santa Cruz also has a lot of dudebro scumbags and sluts walking around.
