As a guy who almost only plays NES and MD: no

>I read SNES
No, the NES is probably the topmost "challenging" system taken as a whole but Genesis has many games that still have that 80s philosophy just not nearly so many.

Dunno about overall, but my personal Genesis collection was much easier than my personal NES collection.

Hardest Genesis game I owned was Vectorman, but Ecco was the hardest I ever played. NES had lots of tough stuff like Castlevania, Contra, and I don't think anything on Genesis was as hard as landing the airplane in Top Gun.

I'd say that late NES wasn't any harder than early Genesis, though, which makes sense because that is the same time period.

Late NES was so different to the rest of its library, too

Actually, about the same. SNES was easier due to how games needed to be slower paced to fit the console's slow processor. The big decrease in difficulty came during 5th gen since arcade philosophy began to disappear and games became longer (thus lowering demand to make them challenging) and more story-driven (again lowering the same demand due to how players that play for story won't want to miss any part due to not being able to beat it).

about the same. snes is where games started getting more casualized for the wider audiences

I'll quote myself from another thread:
"It was a console that came just after the JRPG craze Japan experienced in the latter half of the Famicom's lifespan; they saw they could sell games without being challenging and so trends started to change. Best sellers on the SFC were no longer arcade-inspired games but rather JRPGs."

¿Quién es el alcohólico que sigue publicando estos temas, "Was X hard" y "Was X harder than"?
Por tu propio bien, espero que seas inteligencia artificial.

Neither was any harder than basic English. So You probably find both quite difficult.
