Alright, so I want to ask again because I'm curious.
Most people play with keyboard and mouse; WASD for moving, probably space for use, number keys for weapon slots, and then the mouse for shooting and either turning (Vanilla, Boom), or freelook (modern sourceports).

How many people stray from this?
Are you a keyboard only kind of guy? Are you the kind of weirdo who plays with mouse movement?
Do you play with a gamepad?
Do you play with a gamepad and mouse like me?
Is there perhaps someone who even plays with a trackball?

Personally I just play with inverted freelook. I'm not sure why, just muscle memory by now. I also used to play with ESDF instead of WASD but I found WASD is more useful for debugging (can fit more shit on the right of the keyboard.)

I've tried joystick + mouse. Didn't work very well with the large flight stick type one I used, a much smaller arcade type one could maybe work.

The weirdest controller I've ever used myself though was a wacom tablet in mouse mode. I played some quake live with it for shits and giggles. It actually worked surprisingly well.

What i'd really want to try is play descent or some other 6dof game with one of these. I've tried one with 3d modelling software and they allow you to turn and move on any axis you want. It can be tilted, moved linearly, rotated, lifted and depressed.

I haven't noticed any input lag, in fact I'm more swift and proficient than ever with that thing. Could just be that I'm less good with a keyboard and just naturally better at moving with an analog stick.

As for crapping out, the single AA battery it uses takes an extremely long time to drain, doing periods of +6hrs of Doom a day it lasts for months and months, and it'll tell you in advance if the battery is going low (which is still like a few weeks of daily gameplay).

It's been really reliable for me on that part.

I could, but it'd also take up more space for traveling, more space for storage, and also I'd have like 50% of the controller I'm not using weighing my hand down and tilting it to one angle, not an obtrusive weight, but it makes itself known. It's very free to just have this one smaller unit that has (most) of what I need on it.

I also wouldn't strictly know what to even look for, I'm very satisfied with the feel and precision of the analog stick itself. It'd have to be something with an equally good analog stick and a far better d-pad (because the d-pad on this thing genuinely fucking sucks and is worthless)

Apparently, BloodGDX needs files themselves to be present in game folder; for reasons unknown that doesn't apply to DOSBox version. Black Magic, I think.
SO. You need to download stuff from this page:

Drop them into your game folder, and then edit Blood.ini to refer to these files.

I finally finished this map I started in march, boy lethargy. There's no difficulty settings, but it's not too tricky. Anyone can get by with some infighting I'm sure.
Tested with gzdoom and prboom, found visual glitches in prboom that I am admittedly too lazy to fix. I don't tolerate gameplay bugs however, tell me if you find any.

an interesting theory. however, if it were true, she would have been mentioned in the manual or intermission texts in doom2 as a motivation for the players actions beyond releasing the ark from hell's containment field and saving humanity from extinction.

This is a demo of the Quoth "joke" slaughter episode Quenching Urges of Constant Killing. It contains a start map and two stupidly hard slaughtermaps.
These maps are totally fair and balanced™. The monster count is extreme and the action relentless.

These maps are designed to be played shotgun start so don't be surprised when you start naked on map change. The "intended" way of playing these maps is to finish them as fast as possible with all kills in a single life. Coop is supported up to 4 players but is untested and may cause a loss of brain cells. The only supported difficulties are Hard and Nightmare.

The pack comes with a custom soundtrack. It is recommended you turn the music volume all the way up and decrease the general volume (trust me). You need the latest version of Quoth 2.2 to run this shizzle. See the readme in the archive on how to install and run it.

Finished it, only missed the BFG secret due to not noticing the skull switch for it, feels a bit weird to get that plasma gun when everything else is dead.

As for ammo problems, I did have to improvise more with berserk fists than usual in vanilla maps, but I handled it, around the time I got the red skull that wasn't a problem anymore.

The catharsis I got from going up those stairs filled with zombiemen and imps unloading with a chaingun felt so good after having to get through the area just before them without the BFG.

Id handpainted some monsters (probably the Imp and the Caco), drew over a dinosaur toy for the pinkie, and made some monsters by sculpting modeling clay onto poeable artist dolls.
The last one was actually quite problematic for them as it was difficult to pose those dolls (as they're really not very good for that), and the clay kept breaking off, meaning parts would have to redone, this is why Doomguy and the Zombies have sort of stiff walks to them, and why some parts of the Baron is very slightly different on some frames. The Cyberdemon seems to have worked out the best for this and is very consistent and clean.

Eventually, Id hired Gregor Punchatz to make monster models, he would put together easily posable steel skeletons, and dress them in latex skins. The Revenant, Mancubus, Arch-Vile and Spider Mastermind would be done this way, and these models ended up far more consistent.
There's a bit of b-movie charm to digitized latex monsters IMO.
Gregor's father, Ivan Punchatz, famed painter and artist for Heavy Metal magazine, as well as numerous publications and book covers, was hired to paint the cover for Doom.
For Doom 2, Gerard Brom (another painter of similar school and fame of Punchatz Sr.), would paint the front cover.

You know what the worst part about The Thing is?
They made a remake, a bad one, but not just that, a team put really phenomenal effort into building practical effect monsters and mutations and gore, really impressive stuff that would have looked excellent on set and in the right lighting.

What does the studio do? They tell them "No, people want CGI. It won't sell otherwise." and made them cut it and put in CGI, CGI which was really fucking bad.
Yes, remake a film that's remembered strongly for it's very convincing and impressive monsters and gore, made all with practical effects, and replace it with cutrate computer effects that would have made the SyFy channel cringe.

so ~1 revenant per minute. i suppose on average you'd have to land 30 punches without berserk to kill each one. so one punch every 2 seconds or so. that sounds reasonable, you probably couldn't have done it much faster. good job anyway. although punching things in (g)zdoom is much easier than in a traditional engine.

Anybody else played this? Chasm: The Rift. Kinda weird game - the enemies are all 3D and have multiple animations (for example one enemy gradually loses its limbs as you kill it) yet the actual levels are entirely flat like Wolfenstein. Not bad so far though, besides the comical voice acting.

Right now all sfx use an awful lot of actors, each of which follows decorate logic and eats up a lot of performance.

Particles operate on formulaic logic and eat ~6 times less performance.
Reworking pasrticles and adding the ability to define a bit more comples behaviour with a few formulas, special commands, giving them basic animation and level-geometry-only physical interaction would allow people to greately improve performance of their mods.
