Just started playing this for the first time. Never had much of an interest in "Metroid-vania" games, but the vibe and setting of this game really stick to me.

Any tips for a first timer? I'm at the Outer Wall area rn.

This game gets extremely easy as it goes, you won't need any advice unless you're doing some sort of self-imposed challenge.
I'd say it starts to feel very easy just after the boss of the area you're in right now.

Equip the holy glasses before fighting Richter. Also search everywhere, lots of cool hidden areas and items.

First half of the game is absolutely utterly brilliant. The second half (actually, it's more like last 30% of the game in terms of game time) is MUCH MUCH MUCH lower quality.

It's padding.

I hope so. I couldn't help but notice earlier inthe game how when i accidentally slashed a stairway with my sword, some pot roast appeared...am i gonna have to keep smacking walls and stairs all day to find good shit and become an optimal vampire slayer? Cause it seems a little tedious to do so, but I feel like this short sword isn't cutting the cake against shadow-Alucard or whatever his fucking name is.

Fuck me and my mother for tempting me to unspoil that text there -.- . Does Dracula even play an important part in this game past the Bloodlines intro?

>>4490431

....am I in for a major disappointment towards the 2nd half of the game if I'm already on the fence with the game as is?

>> No.4490452

Explore a lot and make sure you equip the holy glasses before fighting the "final boss". The game is super easy combat wise so don't worry too much there, if anything you might want to avoid weapons like the Crissaegrim or Shield Rod which just break the game in half.

The second "half" is padding (you'll see if you access it) and it only gets easier and easier.

There's a a lot of secrets but you can find pretty much everything you absolutely need just to finish the game is in plain sight. Most of the important upgrades are right after boss fights just sitting in a room, you can't miss them.

Use subweapons against the doppleganger, or level up a little, or both.

First half ish is great. Level design shits the bed later on.
>Any tips for a first timer?
Play it through decent speakers and turn it up, the music is fantastic.

>> No.4492558

I enjoyed the game but it is fucking easy, I didn't know about any of the powerups to jump on the ceiling and run super fast until my 2nd playthrough, but when I figured it out the game became too easy, it never elevated the challenge which is something I can't fucking stand in video games, like Diablo III. When you're just playing a non challenging game that eats up time, doesn't do anything to your brain. That's all modern gaming now.

>> No.4492582

just strive to complete the map, equip holy glasses for richter, and have a gud time.

It infuriates me that a friend of mine refuses to play through the game because it's "too hard."

I know a guy who couldn't get past the first boss (the big skeleton) of Aria. Modern gaymers, everybody.

If you think the game ends after defeating richter you're wrong. look up a walkthrough if you dont know what to do at that point

Lmao, the first time I played Aria was on a tablet with touch controls. It was still easy, I think only Death gave me some trouble.

And this is a guy that plays modern online games competitively.

I think he may enjoy the game more by ending at Richter lol

I hate and love this game at the same time. I hate it because alucard never gets the Whip. If im playing castlevania I want a whip, especially after playing the first scene where I get to use a whip.

Advice for First Timer:
Outer Wall
goto Long Library (goto librarian, buy stone of open).
go back to the Alchemy Lab near your first boss battle, go left to find the locked blue door and open it.
go upstairs to the top of the castle, get the Jumping Stone

go to the Clock in the middle of the map, go up the left side through Olrox's quarters, go left into the Coliseum... drop down to get the Blood Cloak... go to the main arena entrance on the upper left and fight the Werewolf/Minotaur to get the Mist Form.

Use Library Card to teleport to the library, go upwards in the library to the part you couldnt reach before, fight the mini-boss, then get the Bat Form.
> you could technically reach Dracula's Room now, but its not a good idea to do it yet.

Friendly Tip:
Get the Holy Water and KEEP it. Do not bother with these other subweapons, especially the costly axe.

Learn how to aim and lead enemies into it. It just destroys everything pretty much. Especially useful in the werewolf/minotaur battle.

Late Game Advice:
Get the Alucard Shield as fast as you can.

Metaplot Synopsis:

This game is essentially about Dracula trying to get Alucard on his side again. Dracula dies at the beginning, but the long game being played here is luring Alucard back into the fold. Death tries to beat him down and make him humble by taking his items. The Succubus tries to trick him (woefully for her). The Priest is making Dracula stronger than ever so when he returns he will be able to conquer the world (if 10,000 hit points is any indication).

Everything leads to Alucard being reunited with Dracula so that his father can give him a deal he cant refuse just before fully returning into the world of the living. And if Dracula beats him he'll just bring him back from the dead under his control.

The game over screen is basically Alucard brought back from the dead by Dracula, having been forced to join his father for eternity. Thats whats implied by him going out for pleasure at night and having left his crucifix behind.

Yeah you fight Dracula at the end. Im not too pleased with the presentation of that battle personally, but it was an okay ending (kinda suggests dracula is going to be gone for a long time following that defeat).

Is it me or does Dracula in all of the castlevania games really seem to be more like a Demon than a Vampire? I mean we see vampire bats sometimes but dracula never tries to bite the belmonts. He uses sorcery upon sorcery and then literally turns into a demon form when he's half depleted. We almost never see any vampire maidens either, in fact we have a succubus (yet another demon) and there are demon sub-bosses as well.

>> No.4494360

>>4494357
Maybe he uses ranged attacks because he can't risk getting close to the Belmonts with their crosses and shit, it doesn't really matter and probably the devs just put the most awesome patterns they could think of.

>> No.4494362

>>4494357
>>4494360
Also I think I messed up with my interpretation of the game over screen.

Its probably more like Dracula raises Alucard from the dead under his control, they go after Richter and destroy him, then go out to drink the blood of the helpless innocents.
> the cross and skeleton are that of the betrayed and ganged-up-on Richter

Not OP, I'm playing through every Castlevania game in release order for the first time and I'm almost up to the N64 games.
I've read that Legacy of Darkness is more of a polished remake than a sequel, but I'm not sure what to make of that.
Should I just play LoD and not the first game? Or, are both games unique?

>> No.4495553

>>4495206
Legacy of Darkness is both a prequel (not sequel) and a polished version of the original. You start playing as Cornell, several years before Reinhardt and Carrie's adventure.

Legacy of Darkness leaves CV64 as a curiosity, or a paid beta if you will. It's still worth playing just to see what changed in LoD

Dracula is a demon. If you can read nip, read the manual for Cv3. Also you might be thinking a touch too hard about it. Since Dracula has no qualms breaking Alucard into teeny tiny pieces.
