Yes

Maybe not ideal as a first experience with the game because of the screen crunch but it's pretty good if you know the game well. I think the bonus content is fun but your mileage may vary.
I still come back to the original more often.

You have to look at some games with context. At this point there was no way to play SMB in a portable, you couldn't just emulate the game this was the next best thing and as a kid it blew my mind, I didn't mind the smaller draw distance since I literally had SMB with me anywhere I went.

It also had a bunch of cool stuff that made it "better" than the original:
It had an overworld and you could save.
You could unlock the Japanese SMB2 so 2 games in 1
Luigi had the correct colors
You could unlock cool artwork which you could print with the GB Printer if you had one
Some extra sequences here and there
Some small changes were made to accommodate the smaller screen making it play better

But most importantly was the multiplayer, it had original tracks where you try to screw your opponent, it was awesome. Sadly it was hard to get two people who owned the game back in the day and now it's likely an exercise in futility but man was that game mode fun, wish I could play it again.

So yeah, if you look at it in context then yeah it was a good game, is it now when you can take the original SMB and 2 with you anywhere without a problem? Not so much, but back then the smaller screen didn't matter as it was optimized and you had plenty of extras.

Pretty good option of playing the game for what it was back then, plus some extras. Too bad the Lost Levels included gutted out the worlds past 8-4.

I remember how ecstatic I was when I unlocked Super Mario Bros For Super Players, one of the best memories from my childhood. Also, SMB Deluxe is definitely a top 3 GBC game based on its content and quality for a handheld game.

If you don't mind the screen crunch. For some reason it's much more noticeable on a PC emulator than it is on a 3DS.

best Mario Vs. mode ever made

the screen resolution sucks but the extras are great. a hidden yoshi egg in every level and red coins. a you vs boo race mode.

the lost levels mode isn't complete. its lacking the extra worlds after 8 and the wind.

If you can excuse one of the most extreme cases of screen crunch in porting history, then yes.
It's clealry superior to SMB1 in features.

Personally, I hope someone hacks All-Star version of SMB1 to include all features from Deluxe, that would be godly.

God the GBA Mario ports make me sad. I want those games re-released with all of the bonus content, but none of the shitty sound clips and music butchering of the GBA.

That one's actually a lot more significant than Mario and Kirby. It just doesn't look so bad here because it's inside a house, and not the overworld.

Mario and Kirby got away with the screen crunch on GBA because of those gigantic HUDs that got removed.

If it weren't for the fact that my parents were 110% serious about not replacing things if I broke them, those pink boo races would've made me beat my Game Boy with a hammer.

They did. I almost never broke anything, or scratched a disc. It used to annoy the shit out of my when I'd go to a friends house and half their games wouldn't work because the discs were scratched, or their controllers felt like they took a bath in cola.

I cracked my game boy's screen by bashing it on my forehead because Kriby's Block Ball would throw me into such fits of rage.... I just hated deaths that were bullshit by fact that you had not control over them.

Blew my mind that I could see dates in the year 3000 in the game's calendar. Was also fun setting songs to play when the game started. Shit got even neater when I got a Game Boy Printer, I think this is my most played GBC game
